Squamous cell carcinoma: What is the recommended treatment usually?
Looking for a treatment plan for this type of cancer. For my wife she is covered by kiaser but they can’t seem to come up with the right treatment plan

Is it skin cancer? If so, I had squamous cell cancer on my leg, and it had to be excised.

1 ReactionI had primary rectal cancer treated with proton radiation.
Tell us more about the location and any other details you don't mind mentioning. Squamous cell cancer is usually on sun exposed skin.
But can be internal internal.
Do you know what complicates the treatment.
@rdemarco65, welcome. It sounds like your wife is still in the diagnostic phase. She has found out that she has squamous cell carcinoma but more details are being collected about the cancer to determine the treatment plan. Do I have that right?
The treatment plan will depend on where the lesion is (skin, genitals, head or neck region) as well as details about the cancer cells examined after biopsy.
Where is your wife's cancer located? Has she had a biopsy?

4 ReactionsIt’s in her septum wall the thin wall between the vagina and rectum
Yes biopsy has been done but they keep going back and forth and not being clear if it’s anal or vaginal or if it started in the thin wall so they say treatment is different chemo depending on the origin.
@rdemarco65, I moved your question to the Gynecologic Cancers support group until you learn if it is anal related. Here you'll find support from people who have experience with treatment to the genital area.
How frustrating this must be for you and your wife. I'm sure you're anxious to move forward with treatment and any delay is worrying. However, it is important that her team be sure of the type of cancer cells they're dealing with to give her the treatment that is going to be the most effective.
Is your wife at an NCI-designated cancer center of excellence? Has her team suggested she get a second opinion at a top cancer center like Mayo Clinic?
Yes we had second opinion at the city of hope
Her tumor was supposed to be 12-5 with leaned them towards anal but still I’m sure if it’s vaginal or anal or possibly be recto/vaginal of the septum
I have stage three Squamous cell vulvar cancer, so it has spread to my pelvic lymph nodes. First, I had surgery, but mine was very close to my urethra, making it difficult for achieving a large enough clean margin from surgery. My next step is half dose chemo and radiation to the lymph node areas and the vulva (which dictation always translates to Volvo. Even though this is such a serious conversation, thinking that I have Volvo cancer makes me chuckle).
I wish you well on your quest for answers and treatment possibilities. I’m willing to field any and all questions about what I am going through.
@rdemarco65 I'm glad that @colleenyoung moved your post here.
What was the opinion of the doctors your wife saw at the City of Hope? What were their recommendations for treatment? And what do the physicians at Kaiser say?
