Has anyone on HU for ET had hip/femur repair with an implanted nail?
In March 2025 I broke my upper femur, hip and ankle requiring two surgeries. The repair for my hip involved a "nail"in my femur attached to some hardware hooking it to another insert into my hip.
During rehabilitation I developed extremely high platelet levels, 1,800, and was subsequently diagnosed with ET with JAK 2 and was placed on HU 500 mg. As of now I am taking one capsule 3X week.
The pain in my hip and thigh has recently increased and I am wondering if anyone has had this experience with a bone implant while on HU.

I have not, but I have had bone and soft tissue injuries after ET diagnosis. I find healing is slower, and I have more pain during healing. I am on HU 500 mg daily.

3 ReactionsI have been on HU 1,000 daily for over a year. 6 months ago I broke my femur and have a rod and multiple screws implanted in my hip and more in the knee. While the knee has remained mainly numb, the hip has presented a rolling list of problems. I have also found actual pain in the hip has increased as the leg has gotten stronger. Healing in general is a much slower process now than before MPN, ET with Jak 2.

I know the feeling of pain increasing in one area as another has gotten stronger. For a while my poor knee was caught in the middle between unstable ankle and unstable hip.
Since I am not using my cane while at home I may just be pushing myself to do everything around the house and my metal reinforced ankle is pushing my hip around. Currently I am trying to get back in PT after a hiatus for the cancer testing and treatment. Maybe they can shed further light on this.
