Why is healed incision on pip joint replacement stinging

Had pip joint replacement may 13, 2026. Incision is healed but it stings and burns and top of knuckle very sensitive.

@bren6490 Hello, I can relate. After a couple of my hip surgeries the incisions felt just as you described. After a lot of reading and talking to the PT, I figured out it was the nerves regenerating, which is a very slow process. After another month the sensation faded away.
Do you have any redness or heat that might indicate an infection?

No redness or swelling just stinging and my knuckle and right in front of my knuckle the skin feels very sensitive to touch

@bren6490 it will go! Patience is needed, nerves regenerate and heal slowly. In the mean time,
Talk to your hand therapist about a silicone gel pad to wear over the sensitive area.
