Anyone who has experienced convergence ablation procedure?
8+ yrs after my 2017 ablation my AF has flared up. "The Kudzu is growing" with Kudzu a substitute for fibrosis. Anyway due to an Atrial Septic Defect closure coincident with the first ablation my EP has decided that to access my left atrium in a followup ablation, Convergence procedure is warranted. I've read some basic info about the procedure which is more complex than simple ablation in that it uses RF energy to the outsdie of the atria to disrupt the extra electrical pathways that cause AF. I'm searching for anyone's experience with the COnvergent procedure.

My brother had that procedure. After two failed "standard" ablations - not sure what procedures they used for those. He then had the convergent procedure, which has now had him out of a-fib for over a year.
All the best.

1 ReactionI had convergent ablation 2016 my 1st ablation. Was in rythym for about 2 months. Afib came back with a vengeance. Had 2nd reg ablation 2017. Then had bicuspid aortic valve replaced later in2017. Was ok for awhile. Afib came back along with atrial tachycardia and atrial flutter. Had total of 3 more ablations. Afib was quiet for awhile and was wearing monitor. Was feeling faint randomly and got a call from EP lab that I was in heartbroken, 14 beats a minute and stopping for 20 seconds at a time and that I needed an urgent pacemaker and the Dr was adamant about it. The call came at 730am. I made it to the hospital at 1pm team was waiting for me and was on the table at 130. Except for a few programming issues the first month I was feeling ok but still fatigued. Several months later atrial flutter popped up. Dr said couldn't do another ablation too much scar tissue in heart. Afib came back and had a 4 wire pacemaker put in December 25 because of low ejection factor 20%. Have been treating conditions pharmaceuticaly and still have episodes but heart rate only goes to 90 and I feel it. Resting rate is 60 and even with stress test max rate is 95. I'm exhausted and have other issues with infected hip replacement so its hard to exercise. Sorry if this turns you away from procedure not meant to just my experience. I'm 74 and have more issues but have had these procedures done at Mass General and at Lahey. Ready to travel to Mayo for 3rd opinion. I've also been cardioverted 17 times throughout this mess. And still in all the atrial fibs and areas. Dr's say I'm an unusual case. Thanks in advance for any suggestions I'm open to all options!
