Oral teriparatide tablet (EB613) gets FDA nod for Phase 3 trial

@tillymack I am very much interested if we might enroll to this clinical trial. I was prescribed teriperitide 3 days ago, but I most possibly need financial help to pay for it after my insurance coverage. Does anybody know if any help is available and where to look up?

@md79 I believe discounts on expensive prescription drugs are sometimes available from the drug manufacturers.

Many members here on Medicare have mentioned that Part-D now has a $2,200 annual out-of-pocket cap, which can really help with costs.

@mayblin, Thank you so much for providing these links. I am on an AARP UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plan. $2200 annual out-of-pocket sounds good. I worried after my endocrinologist visit when she said I'll be paying about $27 000 - $29 000 per year. The specialty pharmacy is ready to ship. How does this financial part work? Do I need to apply for the manufacturer coupons before the specialty pharmacy ships it?

Looks like state or federally funded programs like Medicare and Medicaid do not qualify.

@md79 Hi. I have also just been prescribed brand name Forteo (which was denied) and now Teriparatide 3 days ago... and am on Medicare. I have United supplement and AARP United rx coverage. All of this seems very confusing and I am trying to take it one step at a time... but Im pretty sure the drug companies do not give coupons if you are on medicare. (?). My former rheumatologist shared once I pay the co pay... Im done for the year. ...until the following January 1. My march DEXA was -4.8 in spine... I had my 4th spine fracture that month as well... ugh. Almost cant believe Im writing this bc I'm fairly active and can even "function" somewhat after fracture - with the right meds - (but its intermittently super painful for around 2-3 weeks... and then heals slowly from there...) My friend did Forteo for 2 yrs and improved her DEXA 23% then reclast improved it 12% more. Im hopeful. ...blessings and prayers for both of us!!

@suegsbfromtexas Thank you so much for sharing what is going on with you. I know what it means to go through excruciating pain, and taking care of yourself becomes almost not possible. I am on the 4th week after a spinal fracture and feeling almost "normal" with nagging pain after longer standing and doing home chores. My DEXA was not very bad, with a spinal T score of -1.9 and a hip T score of -0.6, which means osteopenia, but a fracture put me in fragility fracture osteoporosis. My bone markers are also good. I believe I just did the wrong movement, carrying the 40 bottles of water and twisting my torso when I put the package on the ground. I feel I don't need a special osteoporosis drug, but I am frightened by the endocrinologist that the next fracture can happen soon, and the gynecologist is reluctant to prescribe Estradiol patch. I am too hopeful. Blessing and prayers for all of us!

@suegsbfromtexas Very good that your doctor prescribed teriparatide first! Should not matter whether it is brand-name Forteo or generic. Read up about sequencing OP drugs. I would want to start early campaigning with your doctor for following teriparatide with romosozumab (brand Evenity) and then an antiresorptive to lock in all those great gains.

@babs10 just posted a summary of research presented this month by Dr. Benjamin Leder that shows that 3 months of Romosozumab plus cheaper generic denosumab for 9 months works as well as 12 months of $$$ romosozumab.
