Toe Pain Associated with Peripheral Neuropathy

Posted by rdear45 @rdear45, Nov 9, 2023

I have had peripheral neuropathy for many years, and it has progressively gotten worse, especially in my toes. Specifically in my pinky toe in my left foot and in my big toe in my right foot. The pain in these toes is unbearable at times. I even have a spinal stimulator. The only thing that addresses the pain is Oxycodone medication.

Does anyone else have a similar experience with toe pain? If so, what have you done to address the pain.

Thank you.

I also forgot to mention that I use Salon Pas pain patches on those areas of pain in my feet, and they do provide some relief.

Thank you for the solutions you listed… I just started experiencing excruciating pain in my pinky toe… Throbbing intermittently at night and hurting with such intensity that I cry out. I was hoping it would go away, but it doesn’t sound like it will from the posts in this forum….
Sending love to you and your dog!

@missbiscuit My podiatrist recommended Voltarin (diclofenac sodium) for my big toe. It felt like a red-hot needle was being pushed into it.

@harley22, the pain in your big toe may be from gout, which is commonly treated with Allapurinal. Gout is caused by a high concentration of uric acid in the blood. You can eliminate certain foods that cause uric acid buildup. Red wine in the diet can also cause elevated uric acid.

Not sure if its related but my right foot big toe...seems to have fungus under the nail that almost goes away and doesn't..and yes it hurts after walking for a while.. I took the prescription med for it and it didn't go away...I use the store bought stuff that keeps it bay... It doesn't spread..just that toe now I did hit the toe before this(been going on for 2 years I think..whether its PN related or not... I don't know.. Just weird stuff with this PN

Toe pain and red swelling is usually associated with gout. Which is caused by eating too many foods with oxylates. I discovered a cherry and celery seed gummies that is supposed to eliminate the gout crystals. Wahls protocol teaches you how to steam foods and reduce frequency to eliminate oxylates. Drs usually prescribe prednisone to get a quick fix.

@marochki I have to take my socks off before going to bed. Last night I forgot to take them off and now I sit here with agonizing pain at 5am.

Oxycodone is the only thing that helped with the pain associated with neuropathy especially in the ankles, top of both feet and toes. Doctors don’t prescribe them anymore. Damn shame.

I have periodic pain in my right big toe. It is likely associated with my neuropathy.. I also have this "WHOOSHING" sound in my ears when I breathe. It usually becomes unnoticeable when I don't think about it. I notice it when I try to go to sleep. Then it becomes difficult to fall asleep. That along with my clogged sinuses. What to do? What to do? Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Have you had a x-ray, CT scan or an MRI on your feet to see if there is arthritis. Large toe pain is a sign of arthritis.

@muzaqman Get your Doctor to send you to a pain management clinic. I did. Good Luck
