Done with radiation!!

Posted by Chip @chipe, Jun 12 9:59am

Had my last treatment yesterday! My RO was on vacation so I saw another one that I’ve never seen before and I asked her what’s next, and she just said contact your urologist. So, under the next phase!

@chipe Your concerns and issues you've dealt with sound a lot like what I'm going through at the same time as you. I've had 3 Lupron shots that last 3 months. Each shot resulted in a painful week+ where the shot was given - as well as an elevated heart rate that was obvious on my Oura Ring over that time period. I'm starting Orgovyx next month - replacing the Lupron with a daily pill. Hoping it's not worse that Lupron as far as hot flashes, fatigue, weight gain, etc. I had 28 radiation treatments that ended 4 months ago, and now I've started having the cramping and diarrhea issues. Mild, but man, when you have to go you better find a bathroom quickly. lol All part of the journey, I guess.

Any advice on what to expect from Orgovyx? From what I read, it mirrors Lupron's effects - but once you're done with treatment the symptoms you're experiencing are supposed to be relieved a little more quickly.

Best of luck.

@jbristow3682 orgovyx has some side effects. Joint pain, hot flashes, sometime really bad. Muscle soreness and loss, anemia, dizziness, sometime diarrhea, Growing boobs and a bit of a paunch. You may not experience any of these symptoms however, everyone is different.

I rang the bell August 31, 2025 after six weeks of daily radiation and posted the photo on FB. My older sister gushed “Your cancer is cured!!!” Not nearly. I had diarrhea I hadn’t seen since I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa 40 ago and my PSA was lower but still detectable. No, it wasn’t and isn’t cured but I’m not the type of guy who complains so I push through, continuing with my athletic endeavors. I am slower than before but I am still training.

I am on Orgovyx now for 2 months. All possible side effects I have experienced so far including mild cognitive impairment. Staying active helps if I can overcome the other side effects which works against staying active.

Congrats!!! I rang the bell 3 years ago.

Had my last radiation treatment (39) 3 days ago. This was after a reoccurrence from 17 years ago. What’s next? They said see you in 3 months for a PSA test. A total of 5 months to wait to see if this worked. Wow.

Congratulations!

I hope you beat it!

I completed my six months on Orgovyx and completed my 38 sessions of radiation for prostate reoccurrence after having a prostatectomy 3 years ago. I think you will find the Orgovyx causes many of the same symptoms as lupron since it takes all the testosterone away. As you state it allows you to stop and get the medicine out of your system so you can start producing testosterone earlier
You are experiencing the affects of radiation ahead on me. I have bowel issues and diarehea which they call acute proctitid and they are telling me it may get worse over the next 4 weeks.
I am starting to do the excercises I just learned that are for prostate cancer on this forum. If I knew earlier I would have been doing them all along since it helps for all phases of prostate cancer. It is more vigorous excercises than I have been doing so it produces more chemicals to slow down the cancer. It also can add muscle mass during adt if you do the exercises taking two times longer to do the muscle extension versus the contraction. “The Power of Exercise for Prostate Cancer” and also I should have been doing some jumping excercises when on adt since it helps you keep bone density. It explains that muscle mass is what you want to best fight the cancer. You may have been told this already. Best wishes and good luck on your proctitis since I seem to be following a few weeks behind you.
