Done with radiation!!

Posted by Chip @chipe, Jun 12 9:59am

Had my last treatment yesterday! My RO was on vacation so I saw another one that I’ve never seen before and I asked her what’s next, and she just said contact your urologist. So, under the next phase!

@chipe Your concerns and issues you've dealt with sound a lot like what I'm going through at the same time as you. I've had 3 Lupron shots that last 3 months. Each shot resulted in a painful week+ where the shot was given - as well as an elevated heart rate that was obvious on my Oura Ring over that time period. I'm starting Orgovyx next month - replacing the Lupron with a daily pill. Hoping it's not worse that Lupron as far as hot flashes, fatigue, weight gain, etc. I had 28 radiation treatments that ended 4 months ago, and now I've started having the cramping and diarrhea issues. Mild, but man, when you have to go you better find a bathroom quickly. lol All part of the journey, I guess.

Any advice on what to expect from Orgovyx? From what I read, it mirrors Lupron's effects - but once you're done with treatment the symptoms you're experiencing are supposed to be relieved a little more quickly.

Best of luck.

@jbristow3682 orgovyx has some side effects. Joint pain, hot flashes, sometime really bad. Muscle soreness and loss, anemia, dizziness, sometime diarrhea, Growing boobs and a bit of a paunch. You may not experience any of these symptoms however, everyone is different.

I rang the bell August 31, 2025 after six weeks of daily radiation and posted the photo on FB. My older sister gushed “Your cancer is cured!!!” Not nearly. I had diarrhea I hadn’t seen since I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa 40 ago and my PSA was lower but still detectable. No, it wasn’t and isn’t cured but I’m not the type of guy who complains so I push through, continuing with my athletic endeavors. I am slower than before but I am still training.

I am on Orgovyx now for 2 months. All possible side effects I have experienced so far including mild cognitive impairment. Staying active helps if I can overcome the other side effects which works against staying active.
