Family member with new hearing loss issue.

My family member has just developed hearing loss. The doctor said she would need hearing aids. However, she has very little money and can't afford hearing aids. Does anyone know of any federal programs or any church programs that would help her pay for hearing aids? Any information would be appreciated.

@pml JudysMayo used the initials HCOA - they are actually the subsidiary of Sertoma that handles providing refurbished hearing aids. So either name might pop up.

I had OTC hearing aids for the past 3 years. Although the company I retired from insured them in late 2023, they dropped that benefit since. Now my hearing loss has grown, to moderate-severe, and I need "real" hearing aids. To exacerbate the problem, I have just lost one at age 87. Financing them is a huge problem. I live in Illinois. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Costco, if you're a member, sells quality hearing aids at substantially cheaper price than any AuD. I've read comments from people that have had great experiences at Costco with the hearing aid tech or AuD and the opposite. Unfortunately that is also the case with AuD. Some do a better job than others. And was mentioned, check with local Sertoma or Lions Clubs for used HA. Also, educate yourself about HA at the http://www.CenterForHearingAccess.org website for great, non-biased information before getting hearings aids. Dr. Cliff videos also has a good one on what a hearing test should include, called Best Practices. Google Dr. Cliff and best practices and you'll likely find it.
