Generics Metoprolol ER Succinate Issues Anybody??

Posted by kerileea @kerileea, Jun 13 1:53pm

I have used the same brand Metoprolol ER Succinate for many years and done great. Recently my pharmacy says they can't get it anymore so they changed mine to another one. I started having terrible symptoms on it! Palpitations, Hot flushes where my insides felt like they were burning, red face and neck when the flushes would come and not feeling well. It all culminated into a night with a bad SVT episode that landed me in the hospital. Has anyone had any experiences like that? I have read some articles about generics recently. I am now on the name brand Topral XL and my doctor increased my dosage and I am doing well. So thankful!

Something happen to me and I ended up in the ER but I was on Metoprolol not the generic. I’m on Cavadilol now. Some medication don’t work well and so you need to modify and adjust the dose.

As @kerrileea noted, there is a question as to the quality of some generic medications. The founder of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association recently testified before Congress along with others regarding this matter. I will try to find a link to the testimony so all can hear it. It seems that generics fall all along the continuum from not effective to just as good as the original name brand. What do pharmacists say when asked?

Lisa Salberg, the founder of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association (4hcm.org), testified before a Senate committee about generic drugs. I am trying to find a public U-Tube/Podcast of the Senate hearing on June 3, 2026. I did find this on a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/watch/

2019 I read a article by a cardiologist at the Cleveland clinic saying that he had had some batches of metoprolol check and they didn't have the right amount of the active ingredient in a some even had no active ingredient in them
