Anyone else gone gluten and dairy free to help improve symptoms
Hi,
It has been suggested to me and i have talked to people who havegone gluten and dairy free that has helped their symptoms. justlooking for anyone here who has and interested if it has made a difference? if it has could you share some menu's or give me some ideas? and how long did it take for you to see improvement? i have some general ideas on what to buy but looking for more before i head out. its been suggested to me because i have hypothyroidism which until recently has been out of whack, hyperplasia with possibilityof autoimmune gastritis, possible sjorgens syndrome and maybe lichen sclorus. im waiting on specialists to confirm but i have to wait for appointments which is so hard. its kind of like starting fresh. in 15 months of being sick i have gotten little help so im traveling 3 hours to boston where i can get better help its just hard waiting for these appointments.i am seeing a naturpath dr in a few weeks never been to one so not sure what to expect but i think he is better than who previously i have seen. sorry to ramble just hoping someone here relates tome and can help me out. thank you!

2 ReactionsContact a local senior center or see a registered dietician for assistance with dietary concerns. Our bodies need a balanced diet, especially when we're dealing with health issues. We have to replace the nutritional element of anything we eliminate with something else in our diet.
I went gluten free, dairy free and sugar free on my own after being put on Protin Pump Inhibitors - a pharmaceutical- that helped while I was on it. But once I went off, all my symptoms returned. Some what I did absolutely helped and I knew I was on the right path! Found a functional medicine doctor who tested for the ROOT CAUSES of my symptoms. A naturopath doctor I believe can do the same for you. But while you wait, try going gluten free, dairy free (I switched to sheep and goat milk products) and sugar free as much as possible. I also have Hashimoto’s and have had for years. It has finally been controlled by taking NP thyroid for the past couple of years.
Best to you! It’s a journey finding answers!

2 ReactionsI have systemic scleroderma. My inflammation was through the roof, and my blood tests were terrible. I'm on a gluten-free and dairy-free diet, and I've completely cut out red meat. I only eat chicken, fish, eggs, and things like that. I mainly use avocado oil and do intermittent fasting, which has helped me tremendously. I feel like it's been gradually improving. Incredibly, all my tests are now within the normal range, better than before I was diagnosed. I don't think it's a miracle cure, but I think it's been helping little by little. Don't expect results overnight; it took me months to get here, and obviously, I'm also on medication. I also try to drink plenty of fluids. When I can't manage with just water because it makes me tired, I add a little apple juice to flavor it. Fluids are important for eliminating toxins from the body; all those medications are a real strain on the organs.

1 ReactionI have Long Covid and Hashimoto’s with Hypothyroidism. I have eliminated eating gluten, dairy, soy and seed oils due to having Hashimoto’s, which is an autoimmune disease. Is it possible that you have it too and your doctor just didn’t test for it? Hashimoto’s is an inflammatory disease and by eliminating the above mentioned foods, it helps with inflammation and has worked for me. I also feel so much better not eating these foods. I also had a Food Sensitivity test done by my Chiropractor who added this type of service to her practice and found out that I have sensitivity to all Nightshade Foods which are foods like tomatoes, white potatoes, peppers, zucchini, eggplant, etc. which are inflammatory foods. I eat them sparingly and usually don’t have a bad reaction. If you’d like to read up on the subject of Hashimoto’s, there is a great book written by Isabella Wentz, Pharmacist that spells it out in such a way that you understand it. It’s really quite simple. Wishing you all the best on your health journey.

1 Reaction@sandralowery I also went gf 2 years ago. I am just starting to eliminate the dairy that gives me the most noticeable symptoms. Yogurt was the first to go. Thankfully I am not a milk drinker nor do I care for ice cream. All of this has made a tremendous difference! I’ll never intentionally eat gluten again. Sure do miss a great hot dog and hamburger bun though! Not much success in making them but will keep trying!
Absolutely! June 2019. It changed my life! Last cavity! Last deep cleaning of gums! Last morning soft stools and regaining of fecal control. Motility normalized. It was having IBS problems at the time. it was like I fell off a cliff. I landed on the FODMAP diet (also a life changer - https://www.monashfodmap.com/about-fodmap-and-ibs/) and paired my DNA with a company who matches genetics with known research. Turns out I inherited Lactose intolerance (there is only ONE gene which is passed and I got it from both parents) and there was four pages of gluten problems. Its worth the change. Besides being lactose intolerant (which is MORE than just food - it is your medications too!) I turned out to be casein intolerant! so now I stick to more goat and cheese. There is a wonderful market I particularly shop at, which sells all kinds of great products I enjoy! The Middle East markets cater to those with these kinds of intolerances. Make the change. It's not easy and took me a couple of years in total but my health was much better because of it! If you aren't sure, test your DNA. There is NO going back if you have the gene mutation. didn't bother me when I was young, but when I got to sixty, I was screwed (as they say!). Everything all at once. I keep Lactaid pills with me that solve the inconvenient problem of lactose when I least expect it or when I crave for it. Research recipes and such. Its a whole new world. I do NOT feel deprived. I ended up eating like my Mediterranean family because they are all intolerant too. I love the food!
@loriesco Interesting info! Where do you go to get the gene testing for this?
Thanks
