Best procedure for BPH when you've had prostate cancer?
The drugs for my BPH symptoms are stating to cause problems I was looking into aquablation but I was told Medicare would not pay for it if you have prostate cancer no one around here does TULSA. Can anyone recommend a procedure with fewest side effects I know I don’t want TURP

Any of the laser procedures are good. Green Light, HoLep, etc…what is your cancer status?

I had Aquablation as part of a clinical trial for cancer. After 90 days PSA down from 9 to 3. As for BPH, flowing like Niagara Falls. But to your point, your doctor should be able to classify the procedure is for BPH and not cancer. I will say it took exactly 6 months to have the leaking stop
I had TURP 17 years ago. There was the operation, a night in the hospital, adjustment to peeing with a catheter, blood gobs for a day or two after it was out, but then great relief. It was highly uncomfortable, but by far not the worst thing I've been through, and when it was over, it was over. And I was much better. Sifting through the debris also discovered the first hint of PCa (T1, just enough to keep watch on it). I'll admit, retrograde ejaculation is something to get used to, but (to me) not that big a deal. So I'm curious about your situation: Why not TURP?
P.S. - a bit of fun - My TURP was at Scripps in San Diego. My hospital room had a huge widow overlooking the North Course at Torrey Pines, with a view of hang gliders and the Pacific in the near distance. Nothing but sunshine, naturally. To this day, it was the nicest place I've ever "lived".

1 ReactionTo answer your questions my cancer is a 7 nothing has changed in 4 years I have heard to many bad things about turp leaking ED. I have as sold on aquablation but my Urologist said Medicare would not pay for it because of the cancer
@guybe especially with BLACKS nude beach below the cliffs at Torres Pines. lol
There are other treatments for cancer which also reduce prostate size--cryotherapy, hi-fu, and others. Your urologist should be able to go over those options with you. Or get a second opinion about treatment options.
I am now t looking for a treatment for my prostate cancer I am looking for the best procedure for my BPH as the medicine got that is no longer working so great I was sold on aquablation but because of my cancer Medicare won’t authorize it
@rice A friend of ours had terrible BPH problems for many months. He was finally scheduled for a HOLEP treatment and it worked very well. No more catheter or trouble with urination.
I’m 73 , I had a PAE procedure at Mayo on March 27 for my 77 mL prostate. I was also on Orgovyx at the time and last week the MRI confirmed that my prostate shrunk to 38 ML. The PAE procedure was painless and covered by Medicare and my advantage plan.
I had urinary issues before PAE and now my flow, control are normal.
I wanted to get the prostate shrunk and take care of my urinary issues before I had the radiation which I’m in the process of doing right now and have completed one fraction of five at Mayo, Mn.
@ecurb Sorry, but having jogged right past it several times, I know you'd be disappointed. The people you'd expect to be there, are there. Less than nothing to see.
