Continuing weight loss despite eating more than ever
A few months ago 2 routine blood tests revealed elevated AST/ALT. I consulting with my PCP, gastroenterologist, and hematologist who ordered many blood tests, liver ultrasound, and FibroScan with normal results. I did my own online research and learned that I might be helped by changing my diet to increase protein and fats and reduce simple carbohydrates as I had previously been a vegetarian. I have been doing just that adding chicken and fish as well as fresh fruit and vegetables and avoiding fruit juice. My AST/ALT levels are now normal. However now I am continually losing weight despite eating more than ever and feeling extreme fatigue. I fear that I may need to be hospitalized if this continues as my morning weight has dropped to 113.7 lbs. I previously weighed 120 to 124 lbs at doctor appts before all this happened. Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar.

@tillymack, I did not experience what you are describing as your experience when I was diagnosed and monitored with my liver disease prior to my transplant. I see that you have made a significant change in your diet and that you are continuing with unexplained weight loss in spite of eating more. I think that your concern about a possible hospitalization is your body's way of encouraging you to make an appointment with your doctor and to get this checked out.
Has your doctor been monitoring your condition? Does he/she know aboutyour fatigue and the uncontrolled weight loss? I would encourage you to contact him/her and to make an appointment.

5 ReactionsOnce the AST and ALT returned to normal, and ultrasound and Fibroscan were normal as well, there was little interest in my symptoms. I've been reaching out more urgently with more detail as you suggest. Maybe next week...

4 Reactions@tillymack - It is good for you to be keeping the doctor informed because liver disease can be unpredictable. I say that so you and your doctor will be aware and alert to your symptoms.
In my experience, I needed intervention before my 3 month appointment because my condition deterioriated unexpectedly. My doctors were aware of my situation and were able to act quickly.
I commend you for being aware of your symptom and for advocating for your care!

3 ReactionsI continue losing weight even after eating more.
My paperwork from my PCP always mentions malabsorption history, but it isn’t specific on what. I’m just so tired of tests and hearing, “ eat, eat”.
I just got the news today that I have the beginning stage of glaucoma. I feel like I’m falling apart 🙁
@sizwhatitiz2 I met with a nutritionist yesterday via telehealth who gave me many suggestions for meal planning and preparation. We discussed how I can improve my diet by incorporating more complex carbohydrates. I'll still avoid simple carbohydrates, too much of which I believe can stress the liver. I sympathize, all these health problems are tough to manage.
