Collagen for osteoporosis?
My friend's medical doctor has her take collagen for her bones. I decided to try it and wondered if anyone knows more than I do about this.

1 ReactionI've been using AlgaeCal Collagen for the past 4 months. I'm waiting for my next dexa to comment further. However, it is supposed to grow bone from within vs slow bone loss.
@sl303 I At his a commonly used procedure or still under study? I’d never heard of it. Thanks for sharing!
@mdgarvey
I would depend on clinical research conducted by reputable research teams who are not connected in any way to the product that they are researching.

1 Reaction@laren3 because there is a clear difference when I take it and when I don’t. I inject vitamin B12 so I don’t take the vitamin code near the time I do the injection because that would be too much B12 in my body. I also bought the male version for my 38-year-old and he said it was amazing too.

Not to "upset the apple cart" but I've read/heard that Algaecal contains Strontium that shows up as greater bone density in the DEXA scan than really is. Food for thought?
@laren3
Lots written here about strontium and dexa scans. Check with the search function
@laren3 This is a misconception that I hear every time I tell anyone I use AlgaeCal anything. Please be careful about spreading this misinformation. AlgaeCal makes several products, one is a calcium supplement that is sourced from algae, a collagen supplement which is very good and contains the clinical dose of 4 types of collagen (Fortibone, Verisol, Fortigel and UC-type II), and they also offer a Strontium Boost supplement that is a SEPARATE supplement. Their collagen does not contain strontium and their calcium only contains a trace amount that might be present in the algae-derived calcium, but is not deemed sufficient to effect a DEXA. Yes, their Strontium Boost might effect a DEXA. But their collagen is great! I have been taking it for more than a year while on Tymlos with great success, and can see the effect of it in my hair, skin and nails to boot. The confusion must come because they are one of the few selling a strontium supplement, but it is not in all their products!
