Gabapentin 800mg x 3 day
Anyone with neuropathy in booth feet and severe foot and leg cramps been prescribed Gabapentin 800mg x 3 day. I saw an orthopedic surgeon and she advised surgery would not be beneficial and prescribed me gabapentin and a compound pain cream which I get next week. I am concerned as I read side effects at this dosage commonly also causes memory, cognitive and balance function issues. I am really hesitant to start this high dosage. I am 78yr woman very active, an artist and author, even with both knees and hips replaced, and want to continue enjoying life.

Bluntly. Gabapentin sucks. It is recognized in recovery communities as an addictive medication. And they are not wrong.
I was on gabapentin for 4 years or so, ending around 2017. It was originally prescribed for sleep, then increased in dose and frequency over time for anxiety.
What it took me a while to realize is that gabapentin was causing a lot of the anxiety.
Gabapentin clears my system very quickly and I started noticing my anxiety was through the roof when it was time for my next dose. I think I ended on 600 mg 3X.
I was taking a medication for sleep and anxiety that was causing debilitating mini panic attacks. It was affecting my ability to leave the house and drive anywhere.
I'm not on any psych meds now, with good reason. But I would still say there are some that - while I wouldn't wish the withdrawal from them on anyone - do not immediately adversely affect one's quality of life so drastically.
Cymbalta is also used for pain relief and doesn't make one feel like a junkie. Based solely on my experience, of course, but others seem to agree.
