My pulsatile tinnitus started on the last day of a 30-day period during which I was taking Atovaquone/Mepron, an antimicrobial medication.
The medication had no apparent benefit, but left me with 24-7 pulsatile tinnitus - 16 years ago.

1 ReactionYou have my sympathy. 24-7 pulsatile tinnitus is SO difficult to live, and sleep, with.
Mine appeared after a Covid infection 4 years ago, following 2 MRNA vaccines & the 2 "boosters." I feel there is a real connection, but no one seems to be able to address it.
I'm still trying to find a cause & solution after having countess tests and seeing several types of doctors.
I have been having this for 4 years now. I have had a MRA carotid ultrasound hearing test I went to at least 3 ents. I do take prednisone 10 mg daily but much longer than pt. It sometimes drives me however I try to function. One ent told me to take Claritin and I thought I tried it but I will try again . My pcp referred me again to an ent . I do take cardizem however but only for 1 year. I’m truly disappointed.
@babieray I have had tinnitus for several years only in the left ear …4 years ago I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension /lung volume issues . Year before last the Tinnitus became Pulsatile Tinnitus in the left ear. . I actually recorded it on my cell phone so that the Cardio Dr could hear it. A couple of months ago I was sitting Having lunch in my apt. All of a sudden the Tinnitus felt like it moved over to the right ear for a few minutes , then it all went quiet , then the right ear went quiet, and the Pulsatile part stopped in the left ear yet the Tinnitus part stayed . So as I write to you today just the Tinnitus is still in the left ear .
If I put my finger in my left ear I can fell my pulse however not in my right ear. it was really weird the way it happened and the Doctors have no explanation . I am happy that I no longer hear the swooshing . So I know how you feel . I’ve done a lot of research and spoke with several Doctors and one of my Doctors suggested that a nerve under the left ear could be infected / inflamed .
I should say that the Cardio Dr did have a brain scan done because as he said there is a known benign tumor that can be around the middle ear that could cause the Pulsatile part .however I was clear on that .
I hope what I have shared has been somewhat helpful to you . And I especially hope and pray that your Pulsatile part will stop one of these days soon. 🙏

1 Reaction@kaybast Thank you so very much for your information. My pulsatile T. seems to becoming more frequent as I age. It is in my right ear only and I often try to see if it is the pulsations of my heart by holding the artery in my neck, sometimes the ponding coincides and sometimes it doesn't. Wish there was much more research on this problem as it is really nerve-wracking. It is even my wake up sound now and then. Again, thank you for you article and info, really appreciate.

Forgot to mention that at times if I start a vacuum cleaner the pounding will stop?????? That works about 3 out of 5 times and am very grateful when it works!!!!So far no medics have a clue to why that happens. Any th oughts???

I had brain neck CT scan done, MRI, MRA done. The radiologist that read my MRA reports everything is normal. I saw Dr Nikhil Mehta here in Arizona- and he read it and disagreed with radiologist. He did my Neuro intervention last month, and I dont hear that pulse tinnitus anymore. I had PT since Nov 2024. He is blessed by our Lord with intelligence and skill to treat patients like me. I hope you get to consult with him and find silence from that PT.
