What do I do after 6 Years of Reclast?
If I start back on Reclast for a 2nd time, this will be a total of 6 years with a drug holiday I had in between, what do I do after that? Im very concerned, as I don’t think I can stay on Recast for longer than 6 years due to the side effects, and the bone building drugs don’t work as well after being on Bisphosphonates so I won’t be able to switch to those, I at a loss of what to do?

mangoes, you can (should) switch to an anabolic. It sound like you were on Reclast for two years and have been on a drug holiday for two years. If so, the timing is perfect for starting an anabolic. Evenity, Forteo and Tymlos bone building effects would be delayed but with Forteo at two years, you'll have have equal bone bmd addition to those who haven't started with bisphosphonates.
The reason you want to switch is that Reclast restricts bone remodeling. The best bone is remodeled bone. Reclast stops fissured bone from breaking down. In doing so it stops new bone from being laid down. You aren't refreshing your bone on Reclast. The reason they don't advise staying on Reclast forever is because the bone you are saving becomes avascular and brittle. And you'll be glad to get away from those side effects. I think Forteo is the best choice, but I'm highly prejudiced because it is the only osteoporosis drug I've taken.

1 Reactioni took PROLIA for several years until, for the same reasons as the Reclast, was ended. Then i got some back bone fractures which i'm struggling with now.
Forteo is very expensive and i'm told that Prolia is as good.
hi, leemeadows.
Did you take anything after Prolia.
Forteo is very expensive. Prolia is an easier application-- every six months, instead of every day. For Medicare patients Prolia is free in the US.
But they are very different medications.
Prolia adds mineral to your bone increasing BMD, plus it preserves damaged bone, also increasing BMD. Prolia has a heavy rebound if you don't follow it with another medication. Most people experience multiple fractures without a transition medication
Forteo clears out damaged bone before laying down new bone. Increasing bone density at a slower rate but also increasing the vascularity and flexibility of the added bone. You lose the added bone if you stop Forteo without following it with another medication, but there isn't rebound from the medication.
Prolia is much better at preventing bone metastasis. Forteo doesn't at all.
There are situations where Prolia helps more and situations where Forteo is far better.

2 Reactions@gravity3 she recommended for 2 years, but not sure what I do after that? Also afraid of giving myself 360 shots a year, and the refrigeration needed, especially when traveling
@gently thank you for that, can you tell me what’s it’s like to inject yourself every day? and how you travel with it? If you get the dizziness and nausea, I’m worried about that. What do you plan on following it up with after you finish forteo?
mangoes, sure. It is an easy, quick procedure. You use an alcohol pad on the injection area, screw the needle on the pen, pull the dial instead of twisting like some pens, put the needle in the skin and push the dial, wait a minute and take it out. It takes less than a minute. There are medication coolers https://www.amazon.com/medication-cooler-travel/s. I use ice packs and a small insulated bag. If traveling commercial air be sure and place it in the tray for TSA. I carry a copy of the prescription. But haven't had any trouble except a delay in Buenos Aires. A passenger near me had her vicodin impounded.
Some people get dizzy because your blood pressure drops quickly. You might be careful after the first few injections until you know Forteo will affect you. Blood pressure rises again through the following four hours.
It seems (to me) that the nausea, headache heart palpitations are all caused by the increase in calcium when the parathyroid hormone reaches the blood stream. It pulls calcium from digestive tract, from your bones and back from your kidneys. All that calcium relaxes your vascular system widening your blood vessels.
You can temper the effect with hydration increasing volume in the serum, with salt and caffeine constricting the blood vessels. I never have side effects but I like tea in the morning, and have no other excuse to eat salt, and I take very little calcium (which could be a mistake).
I plan to stay on Forteo.
There is interest, now, with the black box removed. in finding out which patients will benefit from extended use of Forteo. I'm on my fourth year. I've no proof of effectiveness except bone markers, but I am ridiculously confident. I really like this drug.

1 Reaction@leemeadows did you go on another drug right after prola?
no i didn't.
maybe should have but have little good connections with med. docs. My bone markers during the 3 years i took PROLIA increased, but doc said i shouldn't be on it longer. He recommends FORTEO in general but i can't afford it. (It's 1000/month here)....so pretty much at a standstill at the moment...or rather trying to exercise myself into getting better...thanks lee
@gently you mentioned most people fracture if they don’t have a Transition medicine, what does that mean a Transition? Is it that taking Poli for two shots prevents rebound but you have to follow on with something else or you have fractures? Or did I misunderstand you??
Thank you
