Has anyone else needed blood products?

I’ve needed blood transfusions several times. This has been when the red blood cells were dangerously low. I have been sent home once when my white blood cells were too low. I was told to come back in a couple of days when they had recovered sufficiently for me to proceed. You can’t get a transfusion of white blood cells.
I haven’t had transfusions often, but in the past 16 years I would have required blood about 4 times.

@hlthcr2000 The latest PET scan showed the cancer is responding to the topotecan, which was wonderful news.
I had the scan while I was in hospital with a bowel obstruction! It is because of all the scar tissue from the surgeries that I’ve had! I’m on a low residue diet at the moment to give my digestive system a rest!
I’m doing well now. The sixth cycle starts on Wednesday 17th June. My port didn’t work last time. Hopefully it will be okay this time.

i had 3 pints.

my 1st symptom was severe bleeding. it took 10 days to see the gyno and by the time i got there she told me to go straight to the ER. when i got to the ER i was admitted right away. i was there for 3 days and received 3 pints of blood because i had lost so much blood over those 10 days.

idk why i'm just seeing this but yes getting rbc is an ongoing thing for me during chemo... during my first chemo treatments in 24 i got 9 units of packed red cells and this go around i've had 3 already... my body doesn't make them fast enough...i'm also one of those who has to get Neulasta EVERY single chemo.. and instead of 3 or 4 weeks in between i have to wait 5, then hope they are high enough then... tbh the rbc really help with my fatigue for a few days after getting them...so i'm not hesitant to ask for them...if my hemocrit drops below 8 my ears are "singing" in time to my heartbeat, and i get winded walking from back yard to front and i learned to ask...technically for most people thats not "low enough to warrant blood" but in my case my doc has learned that it is,,, as for long term effects ...can't say i've had any...
