How do you handle your appearance asyou age?
I don't want to sound vain, or anything like that, but it looks like I aged overnight. I need dental work , that doesn't help much, but I'm almost so self conscious I don't want to go out anywhere.
I've always taken care of my skin, with creams etc. But the wrinkles just seemed to of came on.
I know this probably sounds like I care to much for looks but I feel ashamed of myself

@rjdowdell25 Wow! You look great. Beautiful smile and skin. ( perhaps coloring your hair w/ subtle highlights would take 15 years off?) But you are truly lovely the way you are now. Sadly our society puts so much emphasis on outer beauty. I am in my mid 50's with grey hair but it is colored a natural looking strawberry blonde. A little lipstick helps too. But that's as far as I'll go. Have contemplated Botox, fillers, etc. However I plan to to grow old gracefully. Besides, a genuine smile works wonders and true beauty comes from within.

@ginger123 You’re so welcome. ☺️
I'm a 73 year old man and hopefully I don't offend anyone, but I think that shorter hair looks better on most senior ladies. I have seen some women who can pull off the long hair look, but I have also seen many others who look 10 years older because of their long hair. This is not a criticism, just an opinion for anyone looking for one.

I am an 83 year old woman who never mastered her hair, long or short. It always looks bad. But, this is a love story. My husband who noticed me when we were both 20 always said the thing which he saw first and intrigued him the most about me was my messy hair. We were married for 55 years until he passed.

Messy hair can be quite sexy and attractive regardless of length

2 Reactions@kjoed53 It isn't offensive for you to have that opinion. I tend to agree.
I am 70 and have long hair, below my shoulders; but 90% of the time I wear it up in an elegant "bun" style; my hair wants to naturally do this and it is so simple and easy each morning.
Even at 70 I am a blonde (still - it is genetics with Scandanavians I believe) but I do have some grey. My grey blends well with the blonde therefore it is hard to tell what is grey and what is blonde. I don't do any color dying or highlighting, I just keep my hair clean and shiny, smooth.
While I agree many women look better with shorter hair as they get older, and I wear mine up because it lifts my facial features. My hair is impossible when it is cut short. This is due to the way it grows: half straight and half curly. I also don't have a pretty shaped head to wear a short style, so the up swept bun makes my head a prettier shape. A win-win situation.
Wish I did have a pretty shaped head which is conducive to a short haircut, because it sure would be cooler and easier to wash each day. However, I look like a "pin-head" with short hair! This because I am tall, strong built, not petite (I am active athletic).
I'd look like a gay woman if I wore a short hair style. A woman has to have certain features to wear a short hair style or just not care what short looks like on them, i.e. "masculine".
It makes me feel ugly having my hair cut short. I don't have a beautiful shaped head like Jamie Lee Curtis or Halle Berry.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so never sell yourself short. Everyone should wear their hair proudly as they like it! What little of it that I have is cut to 3/8 of an inch

1 ReactionI agree with previous comments, I have other things to do and think about than wrinkles and that I look my age (I turn 73 in a couple of months). I can tell that others - people I meet out and about - grocery store, restaurants, etc - treat me a bit differently (older, or like a grandma), but I don’t let that bother me, I chatter at them just as I did when I was 40 (or whatever), if they want to pigeonhole me (old lady), that’s their problem - and loss.
I am happy to be here, running around etc. What I do that totally lifts my spirits and keeps me in shape, is go to my Y 3-4 times a week. This is a boost to my overall health, I work hard there, have a personal trainer twice a week, and I am very fortunate that I’m able to do this - jump up off the floor when I need to (squats and lunges are your friends!), along with much improved balance. I live in Colorado and it’s a ‘state mandate’🤣 that you have to keep running around - get out and hike - etc, so far so good! Just very very fortunate as I spent most of 2025 going for chemo treatments - major surgery - lots of lying around plus weight loss. It’s a mental and faith thing, and I was not ready to throw in the towel. Hoping to keep on for many years!
