Has anyone had severe neuropathy after chemo, mine is so bad they put me on lyrica and it still doesnt combat it. If you have what did you do?

Still suffering from neuropathy in hands and feet, sixteen months after completion of twelve cycles of Folfox. Have been on a minimum dosage of Pregabalin, 75 mg, which doesn’t seem to be having an effect. Oncologist said it will likely be permanent.

I have heard it can take months to years to never to get beyond it. I still suffer thru my whole body and only have two rounds of the oxaliplatin in treatment that caused it. I had an allergic reaction that practically paralyzed me after it. Couldn’t breath. Had to give me some shot to open up my airwaves. Then it took hours for me to walk without collapsing. They decided it was best to quit that. I do take gabapentin to sleep at times with advil. But I hate taking anything in the day.

I hate to add another negative data point but I've had neuropathy for 4 years now in hands, feet, and legs after 8 treatments of oxaliplatin. Fortunately, I have no pain - just the feeling of stuffed sausages in legs and other "weird" sensations. I assume at this point it's permanent unless some brilliant scientist figures out how to heal nerves. I use ice wraps on my legs in hot weather to "calm" them down. Good luck!

@susanafc - Though not great news your input is appreciated. Would you mind sharing what medications you have tried that were not effective? Thanks.

@jaspithill1946 I tried accupuncture, massage (It feels good but does nothing for neuropathy), gabapentin, magnesium lotion, B12, magnesium. However, I know that none of these can fix the nerves that were damaged by the drugs. They can only help to make the resulting symptoms feel "better".
I find that walking makes the legs feel more limber. I use Therabody compression Jetboots. They don't fix the problem but the compression feels good, I also massage my legs when I'm sitting.
When I get jittery legs at night, one ibuprofen seems to help for some unknown reason.
Good luck in relieving the symptoms. I hope time will also help you.

@susanafc Thank you. Yesterday a provider increased my Lyrica dosage to address my neuropathy. I’m not expecting any relief but am concerned about possible side effects. My oncologist told me some time ago that, in all likelihood, the nerve damage was irreversible. Unfortunately I think he’s right.
