@dmcatoe I take na-R-ALA 1200 mg daily along with some other supplements to hopefully slow or possibly stop the progression of my neuropathy (my pros). My cons are the cost but I wasted money on much worse things. There is another discussion on the topic in case you haven't seen it.

I don't have pain with my neuropathy, only the numbness and some tingling but if you have pain and it helps that might be another pro. Here's some research:

I have used Alpha Lipoic Acid for sometime now. At first it worked and I didn't have the terrible pain, but now it doesn't seem to be very helpful. I tried to stop taking it, but I had peripheral neuropathy every night. I am back to taking it again.

I've been taking it for a couple of years and it seems to take the edge off of the pain.

I take 900 mg a day of R Alpha Lipoic Acid (R ALA). That is 300 mg three times daily. As a result, I have been able to reduce gabapentin dosage in half, from 2400 mg daily to 1200 mg. My mild diabetic neuropathy is now pretty well controlled. I drink at least 8 oz of water with each R ALA capsule to avoid slight upset stomach.

I have been taking R-ALA now for several years. It has minimally helped me. I now take 300mg twice a day and am using some that come with coconut oil. I have noticed an improvement in my PN and even a little in the pain I have in my right foot toe caused by a degenerative disc. Nothing earth shattering but it has taken the edge off.

I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy a year ago. I read about Alpha Lipolic Acid as one of the best supplements for neuropathy. I checked about its side effects and I believe it is very safe.
I am taking two 600 mg pills daily. I am not feeling better but my symptoms have not worsen in more than a year.
