Evenity?…

Posted by jojo7 @jojo7, May 28 9:54am

My Endocrinologist wants me to start Evenity but I’m afraid of the side effects. I was recently diagnosed with fracture(s) in my sacrum. I also have severe sciatica and put on pregablin, hdromorophone and Tylenol. With the meds, I’m still in a lot of pain and can only painfully walk with a walker. I am waiting to see a spine dr. but that could be a while. Presently I am taking risedronate. What frightens me is the side effect of having more bone pain and heart side effects with Evenity. I am 82 years old and was active until a couple of years ago. I didn’t mention that my Endocrinologist didn’t suggest another bone scan (had one a year ago), or calcium or Vitamin D testing. Don’t know what to do about taking Evenity!

Thanks for submitting information about your cardiac episode. Would you mind please being more specific about your cardiac episode and have you had other episodes prior to Evenity?

@noey13 i was out of the country. I normally walk 5 miles a day. Took my normal walk first day. Felt heart racing. But felt better fairly soon. Next day eas going to shorten walk. Never made it past 3 miles. Chest pain, racing pulse. Hotel Dr sent me to hospital thinking Inwasnhaving MI. So did dr at hospital ekg showed elevated DT waves and elevated triponan. Had to go to different hospital where there was a cath lab. Had an angiogram. Clean arteries. However, found myocardial bridge and apex of my ventricular not pumping efficiently. Known as Takasubo condition. I have never had any such cardiac episode before Evenity. On 250mg BID. Metoporol ..for past 10 days Ive started having very severe jaw pain and terrible headaches. Scheduled for MRI of brain and jaw on Thursday. Going to see oral surgeon Thursday. My husband, a physician, feels strongly it was the Evenity. Forgot to say, i had been on Prolia for several years but had reactions last two shots. Always hard to tell whats going on because I have Lupus.

Thanks so much for your informative reply. Your experience sounds so frightening and hope you find the attention you need and recover soon. I've been concerned about taking Evenity for such a long time. My osteoporosis is severe and it's important for me to be on medication. So now hearing about your cardiac event, I think I'll choose Reclast. It's results are not as good as Evenity but being 78 years old, I think it's the safer drug for me to do. I send you my very best wishes.

I went to oral surgeon yesterday. He did CT scan of lower jaw. I have osteonacrosis. He thinks it from osteoporosis meds, maybe even going back to Prolia that I had to stop taking last year. Bad reactions. That’s how Evenity was chosen. Same goes for cardiac event. I’m on a slew of meds now:!Augmentin, gabapentin, tramadol, Tylenol alternating with Advil. Seeing him again tomorrow, hoping augmentin has helped enough to avoid surgery.

@nanasuz999 I am so sorry about your diagnosis. Did you discontinue the Evenity? If so, is there any med you can take to keep the gains from Prolia and prevent fractures from stopping it?

@lhibdon90 I contacted evenity after I got my denial letter. My house hold income is more than 70,000 so I didn’t qualify. That shot when u Google it says 2,400 to 3,000 a shot. Unfortunately I don’t have that kind of money. They did give me sites to explore but at this time their funds are closed. I’ll keep trying. Thanks for your info.

@awest6444 Does your insurance have a yearly cap on your out of pocket prescription costs? Mine has a $5000 a year cap, so that is the most I would pay a year for any bone med. Still a lot, but helps a little. It's unfortunate in this country that some of the meds people need are unaffordable. FYI I am not on any bone med at this time.
