Evenity?…

Posted by jojo7 @jojo7, May 28 9:54am

My Endocrinologist wants me to start Evenity but I’m afraid of the side effects. I was recently diagnosed with fracture(s) in my sacrum. I also have severe sciatica and put on pregablin, hdromorophone and Tylenol.With the meds, I’m still in a lot of pain and can only painfully walk with a walker. I am waiting to see a spine dr. but that could be a while. Presently I am taking risedronate. What frightens me is the side effect of having more bone pain and heart side effects with Evenity. I am 82 years old and was active until a couple of years ago. I didn’t mention that my Endocrinologist didn’t suggest another bone scan (had one a year ago), or calcium or Vitamin D testing. Don’t know what to do about taking Evenity!

Hi,

I hear you. I am in Toronto, Canada and my Mother is now in a wheelchair after a fall where she sustained fractures of the sacrum and the left pelvis. She used a walker before the fall. Now we do not have access to Teripatide here and I don't like the Prolia. I am being asked to consider the Evenity for Mum. Like you, I am afraid of the side effects of heart problems and stroke. Mum is quite healthy except for the dementia and has been stable for years. Mum has never had any heart problems nor strokes. Still, I am concerned. I pointed out to the doctor that Mum is in a wheelchair now so the risk has gone down for falls but since they do everything in bed for Mum now, they are filling my head with the fact that she could still have fractures from handling her, etc. I am torn and need help to decide. Mum still enjoys life in her own way. She loves painting and music and is very sociable, always with a smile. What would you do?

I am also 82 and have been prescribed Evenity. After seeing all the different postings I have decided to go ahead and try it. I have concerns about the side effects too. If they are too sever I can choose to go off. I am trusting God. What we don’t know is the number of people taking or have taken this medication and the percentage of those that have had a heart attack or stroke. This medication seems to be the best option for building bones.

I took 12 months of Evenity last year and had no side effects I was aware of. Maybe a small amount of soreness at the injection site but nothing severe. I know everyone is different. So you could have side effects. But for me it was worth it; I got good gains on my Dexa and feel better as I had pretty bad numbers. I don't have any regrets about it. Good luck on your health journey.

@deborahla what were your numbers mine are -4. Having problems getting my insurance to approve this drug. Very expensive to pay out of pocket

My T score on the Lumbar spine before Evenity was -3.8 and after Evenity it was -2.9. I understand about the insurance. I have Medicare so it was covered.

I subscribe to a weekly webinar hosted by Lani Simpson, a chiropractor with extensive experience and knowledge related to osteoporosis. She recently turned 77 and has been on HRT for several years. This week, she shared that, for her personally, she decided that the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks, and Evenity is the medication she has chosen. I’m not sure what factors led to that specific decision, but it may help some people feel more comfortable knowing that someone with significant experience in this area made that choice for herself.

I am 55 -3.6 on DEXA scan. I started evenity January 2026 I had some hip pain with it the first 3 months but it was livable and it's gone now. I'm not going to lie the injection sites are painful for a couple of days in the arms they get red and swollen but again livable. They finally did the injections in my stomach this last time and it was not as bad. I do believe in the long run it will be worth it! Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I hear they are approving some peptides for osteoporosis which I am REALLY looking forward to. I would always rather go the most natural route when feasible.

@deborahla
May I ask what medicine you took after Evenity so that the BMD gain is not lost?

REPLY

I took Reclast March 2026 to lock in gains. No problems with the med that I know of. I took that due to it being once a year and I knew a couple of people who had used it. Also it has been on the market for 19 years. I won't have another DEXA until 2027 so I'll see then how it is working. I am not really worrying about it now.
