surgery for neuropathy

Has anyone had surgery for idiopathic peripheral neuropathy

This Dr. Tim Tollestrup seems to be the only doctor that does surgery for peripheral neuropathy. Is this possible? And if he is successful how come there are not more doctors that do the surgery? It's all very strange.

@highdesertdweller What does the surgery entail? Is it covered by insurance?

@highdesertdweller
Indeed it seems quite odd and I have never heard of surgery for peripheral neuropathy. What type of surgery can actually repair nerves and what’s the procedure like?

Hello @megs9, Welcome to Connect. Sad to say there is no real cure for neuropathy but depending on the cause of the neuropathy pain, surgery may be an option.

The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy has a list of treatments that you may find helpful: https://www.foundationforpn.org/treatments/.

Have you been diagnosed with neuropathy? Did they find a cause for the neuropathy or is it idiopathic like mine?

Good Morning - YES, I had surgery for neuropathy and unfortunately my condition is worse. The surgery is called Triple Nerve Release. I had it done on August 1, 2024. It was an elective surgery that I have regretted. The doctor told me minimally evasive surgery, and I would be walking again in 2-3 weeks. I was NWB (no weight bearing) for three months, severe pain, and also got a staph infection. I had idiopathic neuropathy (so I was told by neurologist) and to live with it. It progressively got worse, and I tried everything from drugs, diet, PT , etc. In my research I discovered this Dellon Triple Nerve Release Surgery. I looked for a doctor in my area - found one that says sure I can do that - well as I said - I take 50% responsibility for not asking the right questions, as I would not have readily agreed to it if I thought there was a percentage of making condition worse or be NBW. I deal with chronic pain the best I can now. I had to let the anger go - still my feet (especially the left) are 24/7 pain. I have attached pictures - I would not recommend. Two years later, and my life changed that day.

Hello @megs9,
In all transparency and honesty, as of now, there are no cures at all for peripheral neuropathy. If you’re lucky and find a treatment without side effects, it more than likely will be to slow down the condition and not cure it. The only neuropathy that might have the best treatments is probably diabetic neuropathy since there are many pharmaceutical companies that have medications to control diabetes.
I strongly suggest you talk to your neurologist if you have one, find one if you don’t, or talk to your primary care physician.
Best wishes always and have a serene evening,
gus

@johnbishop

Neuropathy is such a hot topic!
It’s so sad that people who are in pain are preyed upon by despicable people.

@patriciaschulz1950 Oh my G-D. I read what you wrote with great sadness. The medical profession really sucks. These doctors love to experiment with your body. We are vulnerable and desperate, and they love to exploit that. If 1950 is your birth year, you are my age and I really relate to you. About 10 years ago, I tried stem cells by this money-making machine Dr. You had to pay up-front and also get a non-covered blood test. He did nothing to help me. This Dr. had a radio show that was used to show what a genius he was and therefore get patients. Since stem cells did nothing, I tried so many other fixes. The last was a spinal cord stimulator. A wasted surgery. And we all know the quick fixes, the rub on creams, the special pills, the miracle treatments are all fakes robbing you of your money. Wishing a miracle for you.
