Has anyone been on AlgaeCal supplement?
Hi, my Dr. recommended Algaecal supplement for my osteoarthritis because I don't want to go back on Fosamax. side effects include sarcoma of the jaw. Has anyone been on this supplement? results? It's pretty costly and my insurance won't cover it.

Hi,
I was on Algaecal for 1 year without the strontium boost as I was wary of taking that due to my hypertension as in some people it increased hypertension or initiated it. My dexa after 1 year was worse. Now I have been on Tymlos for 9 months. My TBS was also poor at my last Dexa. I do have Hashimotos and Gerd, both which can affect bone density. No idea what I will take to maintain hopeful gains from Tymlos as I don’t want Reclast or Prolia. HRT isn’t advise for me…….
I do still take the Algaecal, but only 2 tables a day which isn’t the recommended dose. I get the rest of calcium from my diet. I also supplement with vitamins d, K2 complex and magnesium.
Good luck.
I took Algaecal for a year but had terrible stomach issues with it. I think it’s a good product if you don’t get the gastrointestinal side effects.
I've been on AlgaeCal for slightly over a year along with the Strontium Boost. I haven't had any side effects and have been pretty diligent about taking both as prescribed. I go for a bone density test in late July so I will post whether my DEXA scores have improved, stayed the same or have gotten worse.
I was on Prolia and will never take it again. I am trying to stay away from all the infusion drugs so my hope is that I get good results from my test.

3 Reactions@rosem1953 Keep in mind that Strontium can artificially elevate bone density readings on DEXA scans because it is denser than calcium, which may lead to misleading results regarding true bone health. This effect can persist for up to ten years after stopping strontium supplementation.
That's why I didn't use it. You can get it without strontium but I don't want an artificial reading that looks good but isn't "real"
I had used their collagen but stopped when I read dense breasts can seem worse on scans when you take collagen powders so wanted to ask my PCP about it. It doesn't cause cancer but if it makes it harder to see, I'd rather not.
I have being using Algecal with Fortibone and Fortigel 1 scoop daily for 6 months. I am taking it due to diagnosis of lumbar spine DDD and am hoping to prevent development of osteoporosis. I found that it has helped back pain by providing more flexibility to my spine, in addition to thicker hair and stronger nails.
