Unusual bruising on Relugovix and Abiraterone

Posted by cher60 @cher60, Jun 3 7:31am

Hi all, Frank has been on daily Relugovix/Orgovyx for 3 months now (with far fewer issues than when he had one injection of the Prostap 3 month HT). He also started Abiraterone and Prednisolone 5 weeks ago, which so far he has tolerated well.
A week ago he had yellow and lime green coloured bruising across both breasts. No pain or reason why they had appeared, though his breasts were tender for 10days before which he attributed to Arbiratone. More bruising has appeared since between and under the breasts. He's had his bloods checked twice since and they are all fine, so no obvious reason. There's no pain with the bruises. Has anyone else experienced this?
Its quite perplexing!

Hi and welcome. Sorry you had to find your way here...I've been on Orgovyx for a year now but distinctly remember breast tenderness between 1 and 3 months or so. Rubbing on my shirt drove me nuts. No discoloration on my part though, and the tenderness pretty much subsided by month 4. Hopefully it's just a "getting used to" thing, but certainly worth a mention to the prescriber. Best wishes!

They do frequently cause breast tenderness, and enlargement. Bruising is not a standard problem people have.

Then there are the unusual problems.

Unusual or unexplained bruising on your body is a recognized and potentially serious side effect of Zytiga. Because Zytiga can affect blood cell counts or lead to anemia, you should be vigilant for abnormal bruising and bleeding.

I’m on my third month of Orgovyx and have breast tenderness on the left side only. It feels like a fishhook is being set.

You might also consider the prednisone as a contributing factor. I didn’t get any unusual bruising when I was on a 5 mg dose of prednisone during ADT, but another steroid for a different condition earlier in my life made my skin, particularly on the arms, very weak and susceptible to bruising right below the outer surface of the skin. It also tore very easily. It wasn’t painful, however.

@nikolai57 thanks, the tenderness etc only occurred before the bruising appeared, the tenderness has gone now, but the bruising remains though is lighter in colour but still visible 12 days later. The oncology team are just going to monitor unless more bruising appears, or he has additional symptoms so currently a watch and wait. He is actually tolerating this combination of HT much better than the previous time which made him so low and with multiple side effects he didn't want to try HT again. He is exercising and keeping busy too which he couldn't do previously, so I think he hopes its just a blip but grateful he's being monitored just in case!!

Thanks Jeff, we are being vigilant with it, but so far can't find anyone else whose had the bruising. He's keeping active and watching his diet too.

Ooh that doesn't sound nice! His tenderness lasted about 10 days pre the bruises, though we can aee he's developing breast tissue now as they've changed shape. Hope yours calms down soon. 🤞

Thanks, his tenderness subsided after the bruising appeared but he is tolerating both daily tablets far better than the 1 x 3 month jab. Juat hope these work for quite a period of time for him.
