I’ve read a lot about it for a year. My husband just started it. Make sure you take it on a full stomach. I think it is safe. It can’t hurt.

My husband is on day 2. His head and neck surgeon said it can’t hurt.

@janetlev well every oral surgeon that I've been to 3 for different opinions say they are switching to pento instead of HBO because a lot of insurance company's Do Not cover HBO $__ pento that my oral surgeon showed me that similar patients to my situation healed very well I had 50 gy to lower mandible

@gregfrost all right, I wish you well. It is a long term commitment but who cares if it works. One experience dr. (With the PENTO protocol ) said he may have to take it for life. The vitamin e pills are hard for my husband to swallow. He is taking a power form that you can mix with food. The other med is much easier for him to swallow. Blessings to you.

I am 2 years past radiation to my right tonsil area. My oral surgeon had me do the HBO dives 20 prior to extraction, then 10 more after, as a preventive for ORN. There is a local facility that allows private pay, which was cheaper for me than going through my insurance which did approve it. I paid $4500 for these 30 dives. Oral surgeon also is having me to do the PENTO protocol Pentoxyphyline 400 mg and Vitamin E 1000 mg ( you can find vitamin E in 400 and 200 mg in smaller capsules than the 1000mg for ease in swallowing ) I will do this for 6 weeks post extraction. Had my 2 week check up and he said everything is healing great. His take is we will do everything we can as a preventive measure. He also added GEM 21 with the bone graft material at time of extraction, I believe this is to aid in healing and aid the bone graft. Then in 9 months if all is well will move forward with implants.

@lanig how many gy of radiation did you get to extraction area mine was 50 gy ,but I'm not getting implant I think getting implant requires a lot more prep than just removal

@gregfrost yes implants are a whole process, I had 6600cGy with IMRT technique. Did 20 dives, had my extractions where he added bone graft and GEM21, then 10 more dives. 2 week and 5 week follow up with surgeon. It’s my understanding after at least 9 months of healing he will then insert the pegs for the implants then 3-6 more months before the crowns will be set. So yes a little more involved.
