How I got sodium chloride covered by Medicare part b

Posted by 4712Fridgie @4712fridgie, May 28 11:17am

The problem: neither cvs or Walgreens would bill Medicare part b for 7% sodium chloride My part d prescriptions plan refused to pay because Medicare should pay since it is used with durable medical equipment (nebulizer) that Medicare supplies. So I was charged 50 dollars a month for sterile salt solution
The solution: I contacted the pharmacist at a large local hospital (Lee health in sw. Florida in my case). they have a special COPD pharmacist who deals with the ins and outs of Medicare billing . She did the paperwork and now I can pick up the prescription an the hospital pharmacy for 1 dollar.

@faymk
The outpatient pharmacy at Gulf coast hospital off of Daniels is where I met with the Medication Therapy specialist. However, I picked up my albuterol and 7% sodium chloride at the outpatient pharmacy at the Bass Road location which is closer to where I live. Do you use the Lee Health My Chart portal? If so, log into your account, select messages, then new message and from the dropdown on the right select "ask a pharmacist" and there you can ask to be connected to the Medication Therapy Specialist.

Thank you! I use the portal. I am in the process of finding a new pulmonologist, as mine in Broward County is retiring at the end of June. Any suggestions at Lee Health?
