Do you drink diet soda?

I've read about the gut biome complications, but would a few diet sodas a week be so terrible?

Never touch the stuff or anything with carbonation. I know a few people who seem addicted to it. Is it the caffeine? Anyway, if you can stay away from it you may be better off.

I used to drink it, but my gastroenterologist recommended that I stop, as it was causing GI issues for me. He recommended that if I was really craving a soda that I would be better off indulging in a regular soda no more than once per week, rather than having even one diet soda.

Hi,
It depends on what the sugar substitute is as most affect kidneys. Stevia seems to be the only natural safe one. If you are drinking the dark sodas then the kidneys cannot deal with the chemical colouring and it will leach the calcium from your bones. It is not recommended to have more than one medium glass per day if your kidneys are fully functioning.

When I was first diagnosed as a diabetic, the doc said I could drink all the diet pop I liked. After that, I typically drank two diet colas a day, sometimes three.

Over time, I noticed that something was giving me heart palpitations; Diet Coke seemed to make it especially bad. (I did a search and learned that this is not uncommon.)

Long story short -- I gave up diet drinks.

Hi there, thank you for your response, I drink very little soda, my main drink in that line is Springwater with a dash of lime juice.

I've been drinking a Diet Coke daily for the last 28 years, ever since being diagnosed type 2. I get the carbonation out by just tapping the bottle on the table, and/or leaving the cap off. The caffeine helps get me going and keep me going, and I like the taste.

I stayed at a hotel where there happened to be a urologists nephrologists conference. Not one doctor had any soda. They all walked around with natural spring water bottles. ( possibly plastic?! chemicals and nano particles🤢

Hi,
At the end of the day it is up to the individual what they chose to drink. I just hope they make that an informed decision and not just one based on antidotal evidence. Kidney's are considered the quiet killer that only show up when they are checked. After AKD I learnt my lesson and take care of my body staying away from fad stuff, good luck to those who know better!

Have been drinking diet soda for 40 years almost daily. Drank the sugar stuff before that for 20 years. Diet soda is not a health food but is no worse than soda loaded with high fructose corn syrup, especially for diabetics. Like coffee, you do need to watch the caffeine intake since most sodas are loaded with them. My eGFR is 90+ and I have positive T scores on my DeXA scan so neither my bones nor kidneys have been affected. If yours are it is probably not due to the diet Coke you drank 20 years ago. Do what makes you happy but do not deny yourself based on a lot of unproven rumors. Just keep the blood sugar under control because high levels have been proven to cause damage to your organs.
