Having shortness of breath for almost a year now

Posted by globaloutlet @globaloutlet, 2 days ago

I have been having shortness of breath since last August 2025. Went to see pulmonologist, cardiologist, allergy specialist and GI doctor. Did so many tests from lungs to gut issue tests. Went to ER 4 times, and hospitalized 3 days for heart condition, but they still couldn't find the root cause of my shortness of breath. Did angiogram and doctor said no blockage. Thinking of going to Mayo Clinic for answer but I don't know where to start and what doctor to go to. Help ! I am so tired for not be able to breath 🙁

Please let us know if you learn more at the Mayo Clinic or other places. While finding nothing is frustrating, it's also comforting there is apparently nothing dire. What is the heart condition? Seems like maybe the heart could be the culprit.

@stew80 I have been going through the same thing for the past 11/2 years. I went to my primary, he sent me to my cardiologist, cardiologist sent me to Abbott for a Angiogram and ct scan.
Xray lead down the path of stage 4 lung cancer. Started treatment in October with Chemo and Immunotherapy. After 6 months still complained of continuing shortness of breath. Oncologist insisted this was not from the lung cancer or the drugs. I went back to my pulmonologist, she tested me more specifically for other causes of my shortness of breath. Turns out it is COPD and Emphysema. Something I don't want to have but I am no longer looking for the cause.
I was given two types of inhalers, they help but certainly no cure.
I hope you find your cause.

I'm sorry to hear about your COPD/Emphysema diagnosis. My SOB cause is still undefined. I just live with it but sometimes it is scary.

I got sob last year while walking a 2 mile fast walk. All of a sudden my lungs felt heavy. I went to the er and no heart attack. I’ve had all heart tests done and no blockages and my valves are good. I went to a pulmonologist and had a pft and ct scan and all is great. She told me that it’s from being 71 and having childhood asthma and my past smoking history is the reason why my lungs feel heavy and sob. I quit smoking 42 yrs ago. So I just have to live with it. I did have a EGD for gerd and all was good. I’ll keep doing what I do until I drop over dead!
