Gluteal tendinopathy - endless pain - losing my mind
Has anyone else dealt with this:
I'm now up to 5 months of daily pain, the the last two weeks have been the worst. I'm totally losing my mind.
First diagnosis was L5/S1, with disc pressing on nerve. I had cortisone shots, then an epidural. Not much relief, although with time the L5/S1 pain seems to have subsided. I've been doing physical therapy for almost the entire time.
For the past two months, increasing pain in left buttock and often sharp pain in left hip area. Diagnosed with piriformis syndrome, new MRI shows gluteal tendinopathy. I got two cortisone shots for that 6 days ago.
The hip area pain just keeps getting worse. I've had to cancel many plans and limit my activities. It's very depressing and is driving me crazy. Just wondering if anyone else is dealing with this and if they have any suggestions for both physical and mental health. Thank you.

The "best" collagen seems to be marine collagen, which has both type I and III collagen.
Might want to try that.

It can take weeks (up to 6 or 8) to feel any improvement from PRP. Also, how many cc's of blood were removed? You should have 60cc's removed and doubly - not singly - spun by centrifuge to recover a sufficient number of platelets.
Best to you.
I know all about pain so bad you are losing your mind. I had a bad fall in 2024 , the 3rd after a bad accident in 2017. I've finally gotten an appt in New York City at HSS for evaluation and complete overhaul because I've been "mis diagnoised and mishandled" by doctors in the city and surrounds tri state area. You may want to consider HSS.
NJ and NY have many good Drs. I've from Ohio and going to HSS in NYC. some others have seen a Dr Lall in NJ.
@jfn I was just diagnosed with the same thing. Along with L5 radiculopathy and a baker cyst behind my knee.
Thinking about shockwave therapy which area did it work on for you?
Hi @tymlos666
I also do cranial sacral therapy with a real practioner, nor a pt or massage therapist who does CST. Big difference. Myofascial release works too. I did have a cortisone shot for my calcified tendons related to my glutes. I just love being a living fossil. I tend to be proactive with injuries, or they will haunt you later.

Have you been evaluated for a labral tear? I was misdiagnosed for almost a year. Need to see a doc who specializes in hips. Someone recommended HSS - I agree.
@bunstuffer here are a few ideas other than find a good pain doctor: try meditation, get outside & watch the birds, read: How to live well with chronic pain; listen to podcast bendybodies.com by Linda Bluestein Mayo Clinic trained doctor. Did you have an MRI done? Not knowing details I would get a second opinion on your hip. I feel sorry for myself, too. In May, our BIG coon hound ran into my leg and broke my femur. Now,? Laid up for weeks/months. Going to miss a big family wedding in July. I tend to cry and feel bad because I have already been through so much stuff. It’s ok to feel sorry for yourself. Hang in there and good luck?❤️🩹
@jfn which area did u do do shock wave ?
@tymlos666
My feet. Legs, thighs, glutes and shoulder have been subjected to Shockwave treatment, and are better because of the treatment.
Diet, exercise, and cranial sacral treatment also, so much PT!
