High ferritin levels and post shoulder tendon operation pain/Exhausted

Posted by cayleykerr123 @cayleykerr123, Jan 18, 2021

I have high ferritin levels (over 800) but its not haemochromotosis.

I recently had a bad fall (torn shoulder tendon) and had to get my shoulder operated on. I was prescribed strong pain killers (palexia). its called tapentadol. Ive stopped taking them as I worry theyre making me worse- but the pain persists.

I am always so exhausted. I lie in bed all day. My joints hurt everywhere. My kids say ive become moody and irritable.

im not sure what to do- my GP is struggling to assist. People tell me to go to emergency room but im not sure.

Thanks

Am in similar situation post-op ECRB lengthening and radialneurolysis of my forearm (radial tunnel syndrome). I experienced extreme bruising, running from above my elbow down to the palm of my hand involving entire forearm. My ferritin level popped right up, not sure how long it will take to return to normal-ish levels, meanwhile switched to vitamins without iron, reduced iron foods, etc. . Question is how long will it take to come back down.? Am just under 6 weeks . Thanks

After major post-op bruising, ferritin commonly stays elevated for several weeks to a few months. Ferritin rises from inflammation and blood reabsorption, not just iron intake.

Physicians should repeat labs in about 4–8 weeks to make sure ferritin is trending back down as the bruising resolves.
