Statins causing bowel movement motility reduction
I have been taking pitavastatin for some time and have noticed that it has caused me constipation. It seems as if I don’t have any more motility in my bowels. Has anyone ever noticed something like this?

1 ReactionI was put on Crestor 20mg in September. After 2 months, I began having lower abdominal pains 2 hours after eating. I also developed alot of gas and bloating. I have never had any gut issues before in my life. I also developed leg aching bilaterally . I finally stopped Crestor in December. I felt great after 2 months and abd pain left. I spoke to my pcp and restarted Crestor at 5mg every other day. Within 2 weeks, I started having gut issues. Severe gassiness and bloating. I stopped it again. Two nights ago my abdominal pain was so severe I was on my knees for 2 hours and almost went to ER. My gastroenterologist saw me yesterday and thinks it is diverticulosis. I'm on clear liquids going on 3rd day. Never had any issues like this before and cannot live like this. When I researched this it says only 1-3% on Crestor have GI symptoms. I think this may be underreported. I am glad I found this site and support.

I was recently put on Atorvastatin and also have constipation. Was on Simvastatin for years and never had this issue. Now take Miralax every other day.
