I had a total knee replacement surgery 6. Yrs ago and after my 6 week checkup came to find I needed emergency surgery to reattach the band that holds your kneecap in place. It was shredded. Five years later I have started to have electrical severe electrical shocks just below my knee and into my calve with a feeling of water running down my leg. Has anyone else had this and what should I do? I’m also experiencing foot weakness.
Thx

Dear smithrr - I, too, am having long-term issues after a total knee. On the day of surgery when tying my shoe to go home with a walker, I felt something snap in my quadricep muscle. I told them right away, they ultrasound it and saw nothing so went home to recover. After 36 sessions of PT including 8 of aquatherapy, I was still unable to gain a 90 degree flexion. Because of a cervical neck issue, I could not do the leg presses they wanted me to do. I consigned myself to dealing with it at home as I had been pretty physically active. Recumbent bike, some walking, stair climbing, isometrics. After 5 years I am still unable to engage the quad muscles enuf to adequately lift the leg as needed which has caused me to fall several times. I continue to get severe cramping in the lower leg at requires stretching and it sometimes feels like muscle tissue sometimes gets caught in the articulating part of the knee when I am in certain positions. Needless to say, as a nurse, personal trainer and clinical exercise specialist this has been a nightmare. The last time I fell, I hit me head and now require a third cervical neck surgery, which will refocus my recovery attention. Given my experience, I can hardly believe that so many people describe knee replacement as ‘the best thing they have ever done’ for their knee pain. I am concerned the a lengthy surgery time with my neck will adversely affect the circulation in my thigh and leg.
As for you, dear smithrr, a logical path might be to have your orthopedic surgeon refer you to a neurologist after the ortho hears and evaluates your current symptoms. Best of luck.. multiple years to deal with such things seems like a big worry and headache - I know I have both!
Sorry you are having troubles. I need a walker to walk and a scheduled for a 4th lamenectomy with spinal fusion and have a crack in one of my vertebrae. Hopefully you’ll be better in the days to come 🌹
I have experienced the same and take 600 mg of Lyrica daily.
