Anyone have any experience with NYU Langone?
I am currently considering prostate surgery at NYU Langone and would greatly appreciate hearing about anyone’s personal experiences with both the surgical team and the facility overall.
In particular, I would love insight into:
* Your experience with the surgeon and their communication style
* How often your surgeon performs prostatectomies
* Recovery time and post-operative care
* Pain management after surgery
* Catheter experience and how long it remained in place
* Urinary continence outcomes and recovery timeline
* Erectile function recovery and what rehabilitation options were offered
* Whether nerve-sparing surgery was possible in your case
* The quality of nursing care and hospital staff responsiveness
* Scheduling, coordination, and overall organization of the process
* Whether you felt well-informed before making your decision
* Any unexpected challenges or things you wish you had asked beforehand
I’m also interested in hearing how NYU Langone compares to other major centers people may have consulted with.
Any experiences, recommendations, or advice would be sincerely appreciated as I work through this important decision. Thank you.

I did not have my prostate surgery at Langone, but I do see a surgical oncologist there for my bladder cancer.
His name is Dr. Anthony Corcoran and he practices in Mineola on Long Island. He is an excellent surgeon, down to earth and very easy to talk to; so if you are on the Island, he is definitely the man to see. Best,
Phil

2 ReactionsI went there for a 3rd opinion last year. The urologist oncologist reviewed all the tests and recommended active surveillance and said that the chance of this spreading was “tiny.” A follow up MRI and biopsy in the beginning of this year showed a 2nd lesion 3+4. When I questioned how a tiny chance turned out to be a significant chance, he really couldn’t say. I needed treatment and opted for surgery. He was pushing for surgery at NYU because of how “advanced” they are and the techniques he uses are not done elsewhere. I lost faith in him and had surgery 5 weeks ago at a local hospital near home in NJ. I dont know where you live but traveling into NYC for me was a minimum 4hr round trip. My understanding is that NYU sends patients home the same day. Whether you’re traveling by train or car you don't want to be dealing with the streets and highways of NYC with a Foley in you. Best of luck brother, I wish you well.

1 Reaction@df0403 thank you for the reply. I hope everything turned out well for you. Do you remember the name of the doctor?
You are going to a great hospital. My surgery went very well and I couldn’t recommend NYU Langone enough. My surgeon Dr Taneja is now at Northwell but the staff at NYU is deep.

2 ReactionsI did stay the night in the NYU hospital post surgery which was necessary for me. I was in good shape going into the surgery but there was no way I could go home same day. They accommodated me with no problems.
