Shocked by aging process

Posted by seniormiz @seniormiz, Jan 25 8:54am

My fingernails and toenails stopped growing and just keep breaking off. My hair is falling out. My memory is not as sharp and sometimes I feel a little woozy. I hate this. I want my body and my senses back.

Did you mean, "nose" surgery,
or is mose a medical term I'm unaware of?

Jump to this post

@msmarymac Mohs surgery. Mohs surgery is a precise, layer-by-layer technique used to remove common skin cancers (like basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas). The surgeon removes the visible tumor and examines the tissue under a microscope in real time. This process is repeated until all cancer cells are gone, maximizing the removal of cancer while sparing the maximum amount of healthy tissue.

I just had it done on my nose. Took about 4 hours. Some people actually are at doc's for 9 hours due to constant positive results in the removed tissue. UGH.

You got that right!
The reason why I want Neptune, is they have been in business for so long and trusted.
I dont want the living to pay trump'd up charges. Also, no matter where in the world I die, they bring me home and cremate. No extra charge. You really cant beat that. It's just setting aside $$$ for this when other projects are screaming at me. Yet, I can kick off any day, so, chop-chop, get this over with, and the head stone!

Good advice. By the way, how old are you. I'm 81.

I speak to the Gods differently than you. I say, when everything goes wrong and I had a bad day...
"Is that all you got? I havent been tortured enough, bring it on!" You would not believe how quickly my pain goes away and the day flips to good! Its child psycology, but it works! 🤗 The RV idea is great, and you do know, many bring their dogs with them traveling. My service dog was on nine planes, two ferries, 7 day carribean new year cruise, serinaded in Mexico while I fed him homemade tortilla chips, dipped his paw in the ocean for the first time in Hondorus, a few syphonies, plays, five star hotels, lunch with an astronaut, up the space needle, Albuq. New MX balloon fiesta, had his vest signed by muscians and polititans, so a few dogs in an RV is doable. 🦮

Oh yeah! I want to take the dogs and just go. My husband is very content right where he is. He has no desire to travel so since he’s staying at home anyway he might as well take care of our four legged kids.
I’ll have to try the “Is that all you’ve got?” I’ve tried everything else so might as well 🙂.

Tip, get the plot(s) as soon as possible, prices got up!
Years ago I volunteered at a local cemetery, updating dates and such, then I stopped and said, why can't I have a plot? So I picked out two next to eachother, on a road for easy access. Four cremations can be on each plot. City hall let me put $100 down on them and I paid monthly $50-150 a month till paid-off in a finished lump sum. They were $500 each, price doubled after that! I designed a tomb stone to put my husbands and my urns upon, but never had it made. Too many projects, but I did design and had made a stainless steel memorial statue for Stevie Ray Vaughan (dated him in the 70's, he wrote, Pride & Joy, for me). The welder did an amazing job, that is in the center of both plots, and I made a peace shaped stone garden around it. Still not done with that project. Once at a funeral, I was shown a closet that had boxes of unclaimed ashes in it. So sad, I decided to make wings on both sides of my tomb stone with three urns on each for unclaimed ashes. We should give back even after we are gone from this beautiful earth, no?

@msmarymac Cool! We saw a special about Stevie Ray Vaughan on PBS recently. Amazing guitarist! I’ve picked a cemetery (remote, amazing views) but haven’t purchased plots. Thanks for the heads up.

So glad you picked out a cemetery with amazing views! Not always easy to find. Happy you enjoyed the PBS special on SRV! I put on a memorial concert for him yrs ago in town, not anyone can play his music, but I found a band that was spot-on, made me cry. Started building him a life size stone statue in my front yard, lol, and make special cookies of him for my food pantry. Keeping his memory alive! Ah, keeps me out of trouble and the old bones moving, pushing past the pain. 💖🎸

Agree thoroughly with msmarymac! We are stronger mentally than we think we are! By challenging ourselves to raise our goals a little higher each day it is surprising how much we can achieve! Too many times when physical or mental crises arise, we tell ourselves “we are sick, too weak, not able, and resigned to suffer”. Instead of this self-pity, we have a choice to “try a different approach, push ourselves a little harder, use creativity, and lift our spirits to achieve more than yesterday”. We have a choice each day.
Be aware of all the people who have it soooo much worse! Be grateful for the abilities you can use each day, both mental and physical to ease the burdens of others. I try to use these thoughts when I have my “sinking spells” and self-pity creeps into my day. We are just humans all trying to make it through this life and result to “trial and error” as our learning tool.
None of us will make it out of this world alive!
Be happy, be creative, be the Best You!

You just might be like my blood type, B+, opposed to, be negative!
I am a hopeless optimist, and proud of it. People have told me over the years, "Everytime I see you, you are smiling". I always say to myself, why am I the only one? I was diagnoised, amongst a mile long list of illnesses, with bi-polar. Yet, I'm all manic, not really knowing what being depressed is. Sad for loss, frustrated, contemplative, yes, depressed? Nope. I have one of those minds that does not have an off-switch.
Which means...
resolutions arrive before a depression sets in.

A blessing and a curse one might say. I say,
"a count my lucky stars moment." The key to the mint...are you ready for it? Be as productive as you can each day. Yes, it could be simple domesticated chores, self help, helping others, but always try to throw in there something that you KNOW is the reason why you are REALLY here. Trust me, its not the trivial things most people think. People, you are an extra ordinary entity.
Now show the world who you are, because we are NOT defined by our illnesses!

Have you thought about renting an RV for a few days and taking one or two dogs with you? I havent been on a "back to nature" getaway in a while, but rented a cabin in a state park in my town, on the lake, with a wrap around porch. It was the only handicapped cabin, for me and my service dog, had a ramp instead of steps. They allowed me to wire a gate on the fenced-in porch so my dog could walk freely. It was amazing, we loved no TV, phone, internet, quiet and peaceful. A canoe or row boat would lazily pass by, BBQ vegan stuff on the grill, and enjoyed the wildlife with seeds I put out. It revived both of us, and worth every penny and moment to rejuvinate from typical society stress. We all should treat ourselves to self care at least once a year.
