Has anyone found a treatment that helps with peripheral neuropathy?

Posted by bigjohnscho @bigjohnscho, Jul 1, 2025

I suspect that everyone on this forum has been searching for a medication that helps their neuropathy and even though you no that all the internet claims are false we continue to waste hundreds of pounds. Desperation is a powerful force. Has any one been fortunate enough to find a genuine treatment. I just can’t believe that there are so many awful people who prey on our vulnerability and knowingly orchestrate such elaborate scams.

Where do you get CET treatments from - what kind of a doctor - also the gal who does acupuncture a person may need once a month followup which wouldn't be bad or maybe twice a month which wouldn't be bad either - I just can't take those meds that cause you so much fatigue - no way to live my life. When I go for my well care visit I will ask my primary care dr about CET - see what he says - does a chiropractor do CET or regular dr or what kind of a dr. Thanks for the info.

Google CET for clinical info. In Dallas its a group of.clinics call DFH Neuropthy Clinics. Unfortunately it takes many treatments...60 to 70 visits. Again seems.to be working by.growing new nerves in the legs. .I am on treatment 46 and I no longer have pins and needles sensation in my shin.

For now I am doing acupuncture - had 4 treatments but was told I need 10 total so going there for now and when I get too much burning I take a small dose of xanax and that's ok but I don't tell my acupuncturist that as she said that what acupuncture is for - so what I take is my business and occasional one is fine - I only took a 1/4 of one so that's not too much because I was told from a neurology nurse that anxiety makes your neuropathy worse. Since I am 82 I just got panicky when I was burning all over and got scared and my daughter told me to take a little bit of the xanax and it knocked the burn out as it relaxed me - gabapentin my primary dr can prescribe but like my son said why would you change your meds when one is working - gabapentin has terrible side effects even though he was only going to prescribe 100 mg. Anyway, thanks for responding to me.

@gnocchi I'm considering acupuncture since I refuse to take gabapentin. On days when my feet are really buzzing I take two Tylenol. Fingers crossed.

She did tell me I need 10 so will do - only had 4 so far but the last one she came in twice and felt it when I left and not too bad now but go again tomorrow. I will at least give that a try - my niece who used to do acupuncture said 10 sounded right to her in her honest view.

I'm 58. I am a diabetic since 2017 (A1C 8.7 - 10.7)and major peripheral neuropathy which initially started with my feet (tingling, numb, painful nerve discomfort, nerve strikes, etc..). Until this day(2026) with Diabetes and Peripheral Neuropathy, they eventually spread throughout my body from feet, calves, thighs, waist and hands(fingers) which also included all the awful symptoms.....regardless if you follow doctors orders, meds, insulin, meals, etc.. NO CURE!

After all the doctors, neurologist, specialist, emergency rooms, hospitals, prescribed medications such as (Pregabapentin/gabapentin, Juniva, Metformin, Duloxetine, insulin, etc.. and also purchased massagers, creams, medical devices, and stuff on Amazon to help with neuropathy at no avail....

As of today, I totally regret to spend thousands and thousands of dollars (Out of Pocket and/or Insurance) for diabetes, neuropathy, anxiety, insomnia, etc.

Sadly, serious mental and health pain complications and conditions were experienced as "NO CURE" after all ! The final solution mentioned by one doctor was to consider to amputate feet, and legs, and hands. I gave it some thought but ultimately refused all of it.

After 8 years with such conditions, you DO NOT want the neuropathy (PN-nerve damage) to grow, spread and affect your entire feet, calves, thighs, waist and hands as it is an extremely uneasy, frustrating state of mind, major anxiety, stress, insomnia, weak muscles, bad nerves with daily activities, etc..

And many years of experience, I found NO devices, creams, massagers, meds, specialist, doctors, etc. for PN and diabetes which comes with many bad symthoms. I simply have molded and learned to ignore the awful symptoms as it has been a part of my life for many years. It is an extremely miserable way to live into the golden years...

As I feel discomfort and eventually accepted "NO CURES" regardless of managed diabetes or not, I purchased a 2 year dog (German Shepherd) to help encourage, smile, somewhat ignore nerve pain, and walk at least 4 times a week which helps some body movements, muscles, and little help with bad nerves regardless of the pain. He is amazing! I regret not buying/adoption dog many years ago...as i still want to live a bit longer as I age...

My advice is to eat healthy, walk, routine scheduled "exercise' plan and possibly adopt a dog for major encouragement, motivation, smiles, and most definitely "Save your Money"…! The end is near .....

My prayers are with all of you …

Thanks for responding and looked up your medication and the side effect of insomnia is not something I want to use yet - in June I am going for a well patient appt. and am looking forward to just talking to the dr about all my ills - they do this to learn more about the patient which can't hurt.

When I take such a mild dose of xanax it really helps with the only side effect is relaxation and nothing else. My husband died and was on fire before last Thanksgiving and so I live alone - only have 2 children as I am not from Kansas so glad I have these two wonderful children and like my son said for now if it works take it - you are not taking large doses - I have to get through each day lots of time alone but do have friends. I am going to church now - am going to focus on our priest and not about me and my neuropathy. My kids tell me I am obsessing too much. I go for my acupuncture on Monday - she feels I need 10 treatments - we shall see. Like my dr said it wont hurt you. I sure thank you for responding to me. Good luck to you and all who have this problem. I guess I usually always had good health but all of a sudden this and felt boy 82 isn't all that great but all you have to do is look around and see sooo much worse and sooo much suffering from other people. Keep in touch.

@michhino I'm sorry to hear the struggle. I developed neuropathy on my feet from exercising too much. 1 went to doctor's but didn't take drugs. I had incredible amount of pain walking and kept getting worse over 10 months. I also spent much money trying different treatments. In the end l settle for 3 devices l tried in a neuropathy clinic and self treated at home. The improvement is very small and gradual, it took me 12 months of consistent use to be able to walk around for an hour now with discomfort but a lot less pain. I used to have so much pain just walking to the bathroom or brushing my teeth. I plan on keep doing my treatments for another 2 years. Hope l can go back to sports the way l used to. Right now l can play a bit once or twice a week. I use a PEMF, red light, and a shockwave machine. I don't have any health issues maybe that's why l am seeing improvement with proper treatment. I wish you the best. Spending all that money is exhausting. Then when it doesn't work it's crushing. It's not possible to describe the neuropathic pain to those who never experienced it. I feel you. I'm glad you got a dog.

Thank you Dabebun-

I agree. People do not understand the critical medical issues with Diabetes and Neuropathy as it also sometimes causes negative mental thoughts... I am grateful to have my dog as it really has improve my mental stages.

I have given up on trying different insulins, medications, creams, devices, etc.. as i serious feel its no use.

Have a nice day!

@michhino Dogs are AMAZING. I'm a dog and cat lover. Just having a dog or cat setting/laying on my lap and petting a dog or cat helps me to stay calm. I'm waiting for the day when they announce that they have found "something" that will help "renew "the nerve endings "that are dying in my body (my legs). So, while I wait for that exciting news I keep on trying to find the medication that will take care of the NEVER-ENDING PAIN that I have from the PN and the LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS. I seem to have a double whammy when it comes to the pain. And, I do tend to have some negative thoughts come upon me and that is NO WAY TO START A NEW DAY with negative thoughts. I'm working on that. More POSITIVE THOUGHTS for me.
You have a BLESSED AND BEAUTFIUL DAY.

@michhino I have neuropathy in my feet and walk 4 miles every morning but can only do so with good quality shoes . My old pair were wearing down and I didn't realize it until my pain started getting bad, pain up my legs , shins, hips and back to where I could barely move . I replaced my shoes (hokas ) with stability and shock absorption and the results were amazing, I had very little pain this morning and certain it will continue to improve, this was just day one . Footwear is so important with neuropathy. I also have fibromyalgia on top of it so definitely need supportive shoes .
