Has anyone found a treatment that helps with peripheral neuropathy?
I suspect that everyone on this forum has been searching for a medication that helps their neuropathy and even though you no that all the internet claims are false we continue to waste hundreds of pounds. Desperation is a powerful force. Has any one been fortunate enough to find a genuine treatment. I just can’t believe that there are so many awful people who prey on our vulnerability and knowingly orchestrate such elaborate scams.

I had no luck with even large doses of gabapentin, but Lyrica works wonders for me. A CBD balm for burning also helps—my polyneuropathy is advanced.
@gnocchi I hear you about the struggle to find a way to reduce the pain! Years ago I tried gabapentin but within two days had severe edema and stopped. My doc prescribed amytriptilin, which did nothing, and suggested both pregabalin and Lyrica, but both have similar side effects as gabapentin.
I tried a compound cream, which was mildly helpful at first, then lost effectiveness. I still use a full-specctrum CBD cream and that helps a bit.
Another person on Mayo Connect suggested low-dose naltrexone, and I have an appointment with my doc next month to see about this. It’s been used for years for opiod withdrawal at 20 mg per day and now is being used for chronic pain, including neuropathy, at 1-5 mg per day. Any side effects are supposed to be very mild and not long lasting. Here is a good paper from the Cleveland Clinic that explains how it works.

I have considered both valium and xanax but decided to stay away from both, as I am also very concerned about balance issues with the numbness. I hope this helps — we are all working together to find the answers!

1 Reaction@3740 Why post something so completely negative? At not time have I even suggested there is a cure. We are all looking for ways to improve this condition, and this forum is a place to offer ideas and out own experience. No need to be such a downer!
@3740 Every one of us that have PN are hoping, desperately hoping, for a cure for PN but there is NO CURE for PN. There is some help for those of us that suffer with the PAIN from PN. I was diagnosed with PN 5 years ago. I am now looking to have a PAIN PUMP surgically put into my hip. Just waiting for the insurance approval. I'm hoping that after the pain pump is surgically put into my hip that then maybe....just maybe, I'll get some pain free sleep.
I was diagnosed with PN almost 30 years ago (I am now 87 years old) and have never received any treatment. It has only become worse over the years; I am now just barely able to walk. Fortunately, I have never had any pain with it.
The only "treatment" I have used is exercise. That seemed to work OK, but serious heart trouble 5 years ago severely limited that, and now I can barely lift a 10 lb. dumbbell.
Any suggestions?
Joe

Thanks for responding and looked up your medication and the side effect of insomnia is not something I want to use yet - in June I am going for a well patient appt. and am looking forward to just talking to the dr about all my ills - they do this to learn more about the patient which can't hurt.
When I take such a mild dose of xanax it really helps with the only side effect is relaxation and nothing else. My husband died and was on fire before last Thanksgiving and so I live alone - only have 2 children as I am not from Kansas so glad I have these two wonderful children and like my son said for now if it works take it - you are not taking large doses - I have to get through each day lots of time alone but do have friends. I am going to church now - am going to focus on our priest and not about me and my neuropathy. My kids tell me I am obsessing too much. I go for my acupuncture on Monday - she feels I need 10 treatments - we shall see. Like my dr said it wont hurt you. I sure thank you for responding to me. Good luck to you and all who have this problem. I guess I usually always had good health but all of a sudden this and felt boy 82 isn't all that great but all you have to do is look around and see sooo much worse and sooo much suffering from other people. Keep in touch.
Tried A several times. Helped a little but no lasting treatment
Im going to a clinic that is using CET treatments. Medicare pays for it. It seems.to be working. Google CET for Neuropthy.

2 ReactionsWhere do you get CET treatments from - what kind of a doctor - also the gal who does acupuncture a person may need once a month followup which wouldn't be bad or maybe twice a month which wouldn't be bad either - I just can't take those meds that cause you so much fatigue - no way to live my life. When I go for my well care visit I will ask my primary care dr about CET - see what he says - does a chiropractor do CET or regular dr or what kind of a dr. Thanks for the info.
@kayejen
As someone who had a pain pump for 20 years, I doubt that the pump will be successful for peripheral neuropathy. Good luck.
