I understand your frustration and sometimes wonder if they are doing any good, or "What if stop?" I strongly advise you to talk to your provider before stopping or changing any medication. There may be alternatives, or at a minimum, it might be necessary to wean off a medication.

Even if you think they are not working or the side effects are unbearable, the alternatives may be worse.

They threw everything at me, old drugs, designer drugs, some as much as a thousand dollars a pill (insurance paid). Somebody was making money off of my illness(s) that didn't require drugs! I am the poster child for mental illness but if I didn't tell you, you would never know. Most doctors dont have a clue about mental illnesses because its one of those catagories that, if you dont have it, you will never understand it, so they just drug you up like a lab rat. Drop-kicking the drugs was one of the best things I ever did for myself.

@tisme I am curious what issues you have had? Sometimes there is a period of finding the right combination of medications, the right doses. Even the best time of day to take them. We all have different stories to tell, definitely. For me, my antidepression medication has been working for many years, but I also add in exercise, talk therapy, and things that are meaningful to me.

As @roch commented, simply stopping may do you more harm than you realize. At least speak to your prescribing doctor and get their opinion. Can you do that?

@gingerw
Idk if you are asking me or someone else these questions.
I don't suffer with depression, so I can't comment on those types of drugs, and I'm sorry you are enduring it, but you seem to have much support on your side, which is great.
I was on a gaggle of drugs, in combo and not, for SEVEN years. That was six years more than I should have allowed. Nothing worked and the side effects were herendous. I care not to be triggered with the memories.
For me, stopping all drugs helped me more than ever taking them. Remeber they saw it takes weeks for your body to adjust to the medicines, but on the flip side, it also takes weeks for your body to adjust not having something toxic in you. I chose the right door.

@tisme I hope you are able to schedule some time with your provider and review what medications/lifestyle changes may work to your advantage. We are our own best advocate, and being very truthful about any other health concerns we have is important. If there are questions about interactions, and you feel your provider is not able to address it completely, I have found my pharmacist is a great person to talk to, and get their input on interactions. Because I have several different things going on, and a variety of medications, everything gets coordinated, from what I take, how much, to when I take things. Even over-the-counter medications can cause issues, and more so if you have NAFLD. Knowledge is power!

@msmarymac I was replying to @tisme

Almost all of us have good and not-so-good memories of how medications might affect us. It's a learning curve, to be sure! And you're definitely correct, it is not an instantaneous thing to feel the effects, whether starting or changing/stopping something.
