Hi Everyone, a year ago I was diagnosed with GCA and now I am coming to find out that it may not be GCA. It may be something on the order of Hypertensive Retinopathy. The Ophthalmologist I am seeing is incompetent to say the least and so out of his element it is tragic. It is at the point where I find I am best off doing my own research and ignoring anything he says. It has been extreme challenge but I think I am slowly getting this sorted out. The really sad thing is because of the damage this quack has done I have been told it is a certainty that I will go completely blind and it will happen sooner rather than later.

With that said I have some questions as I work to find pieces to this puzzle. Because of my diagnosis of PTS and Anxiety I have a Service Dog. Summer is coming on here and I am having problems with my vision darkening and I can't figure out why. When I am out I wear good high end polarized sunglasses. When I take my Dog for his 3:00PM walk here on the East Coast of the US the sun is really bright. I am noticing that once I am back inside my vision doesn't recover quickly at all. I have figured out that due to the extensive damage to my eyes they get easily overwhelmed by the sun or bright lights and I have a feeling it is getting worse but I am not sure.

Also, I normally eat my dinner around 5:30PM and I am noticing that my vision tanks even more. Is this possibly due to changs in my blood sugar as a result of my eating dinner? At my Primary Doctors urging I have removed as much sugar and salt from my diet as I possibly can but I know that blood sugar levels do vary. That plus I am on Prednisone and probably will be for life due to the damage done to my vision by that quack and a side effect of Prednisone is Diabetes and blood sugar issues so I need to ask the question.

How about it everyone? what are your thoughts and please feel free to join in. Therea are no wrong answers and I learn every time I ask a question. Thanks and have a good week.

I'm so sorry you are having these problems with your eyes! I have Retinitis Pigmentosa. However, like you I did my own research and discovered that foods with lutein in them help your vision. I ate a lot of foods with lutein in them and my eyes improved. Some of the foods that have lutein are carrots, yellow bell peppers, lettuce, eggs, and squash. You can find a whole list of foods with lutein in them with a Google search. I also take Vitamin A pills. You go blind with Retinitis Pigmentosa but I'm not. I was diagnosed with this disease in 2010 and I see the same as I always have; not great but OK. I've worn glasses since I was 6 and I'm 80.

Prayer also helps. God is there for you. He made your eyes and he can fix them! I'll say a prayer for you also.
I wish you the best.
