Success with low dose naltrexone for Autoimmune disorders

Posted by julie868 @julie868, Feb 13, 2020

Low Dose Naltrexone, otherwise known as LDN, seems to be helping a lot of people lately who have all different types of autoimmune disorders.
The information I read sounds very interesting and would like to know if anyone has tried it personally?

The theory that I read says that many autoimmune issues are caused by a deficiency in endorphins, endorphins regulate the immune system. LDN temporarily blocks the body's natural endorphin production for a few hours, this tricks the body into thinking it needs to increase endorphin production. When the blockade wears off, all the endorphins are released into the body, regulating the immune system and providing natural pain relief for the rest of the day. Apparently, LDN can increase your endorphins by up to 300%

LDNscience.org has a lot of information and research about it. You can also look at the writer, Annie Habler (@hablerannie) on Medium.com who wrote an article recently about the fascinating background and history of LDN.

Please let me know if you have tried it and what your experience was like. If you could let me know any details your condition, the dosage you used, any side effects, etc it would be helpful.

Thank you!

I missed a dose of LDN, and had a flare in severity of vasculitis rash, and bone pain. I did get started back on it immediately, but I’m definitely leaning toward it is doing more than I realized.
I plan to as for an increase in my dose from 3 to 4.5mg at my next appointment.

Hello,

I was diagnosed with IGA Vasculitis about a year ago. I was first treated with Axothyoprine but could not tolerate it as it increased my liver enzymes. I have been on Mycophenolate Mofetil for about 9 months now. The Vasculitis is under control ( no rashes or kidney issues) however I am experiencing more and more issues with neuropathies in my feet and hands.
Were you prescribed LDN initially for your Vasculitis? Also if you experienced nerve or neuropathy issues did or does the LDN help to alleviate them?
I am going to Mayo for my year check with my Rheumatologist and would like to hear more about this and possibly discuss it with him.
Thank You!!

@suetex thanks so much! That's helpful. Maybe I need to give it more time.

@jahm My situation was a puzzle until I recieved the diagnosis of Sjogren's and then everthing made sense. I had a routine sono of my legs that showed the vasculitis but no symptoms. I was already taking LDN at that time. I do have neuropathy (as well as balance problems) but little pain. Along with SFN. So is it the LDN? My Neurologist would say so.

After having read comments regarding Naltrexone and having asked questions and heard from people in this group I did some more reading. As I had previously said I was interested in any information or studies as to Naltrexone and treatment for Vasculitis.

I receive my care at Rochester Mayo Clinic and often look for trial studies and research. I found the following that may be of interest to some. I will definitely be discussing this with my Rheumatologist when I see him in a week.
Search Clinical Trials
Search tips
Low Dose Naltrexone to Improve Physical Health in Patients With Vasculitishttps://www.mayo.edu/research/clinical-trials/cls-20438025

Thanks to those who shared both information and experiences with Naltrexone.

I forgot to add that I had my last colonscopy two years ago and it found "normal mucosa". I refused another one. (I'm almost 80.) They kept me as a patient.

Interested in this. Have EGPA which is in "remission" with steroids and a once month biologic, but still have significant neuropathy and hypoxia.
