Support Group for Those of Us Living With Mild Dementia

I know there is a Dementia Caregiver Support Group https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/caregivers-dementia/

I would like to have a group for people like me. I am entering the Mild Dementia phase from Mild Cognitive Impairment.
It’s frightening to think about my future.

I'm grateful for this group for Dementia Patients https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/early-dementia-mild-cognitive-impairment-mci/

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Early Dementia & Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) Support Group.

I’m not worried about Brain Freeze. I had it sixty years ago. About forty years ago I was introducing two people that I had known for years. I couldn’t think of their names.

My problem now is that I have too much on my mind. I need to focus on the task at hand. I keep thinking of later moves and forget why I opened the refrigerator.

@vijay26 Maybe ask your primary care doctor for a referral to get tested for yourself first. Then you can tell your husband how the test wasn’t bad, was fun, etc. You can ask the doctors all your questions. They might have a suggestion on how to get your husband in there, and you’ll have a known place to refer him to.
I actually told my husband, “I’ll go if you’ll go” because he was bugging me to get tested. That worked for us.

So I hv Alzheimer’s or should say the beginning of
Alzheimer’s.
I also did my research and I saw someone up above. Talk about TAU. Didn’t know what here was a test for that? I found out from my neurologist that they are still working on a pill for the Tau
Didn’t know there was a test for the Tau? If you have that test, what will it show that everything is sticking together?
I’m going to go on arocept
after 3 months of Lequembi
infusions. Why she is waiting I don’t know?
Your husband is probably afraid of the out come of the test it’s not bad, the very first one was tough my dr told me to take Benadryl
She said that the first time you’re having infusion, your body has to get used to it so they gave me Tylenol for the next couple of times and that was that. I was scared as well.

That is most common forgetting what you walked into a room for or why you opened the refrigerator. I have the beginning of Alzheimers I always could not remember someone’s name. But now it’s getting worse people I know well I sometimes forget their name. I’m a little scared, but I’m a person that hits things head on. I don’t brush anything under the rug. I try to get to the bottom, especially illness.

She is doing research at the Cleveland Clinic on this topic.
Very interesting.

It is a very interesting subject.
There is a family in Texas that every family member who is female eventually has Alzheimer’s. This has happened since they can remember , many generations ago.
It would be interesting if they find out why.
I wondered if it possibly could be contributed to a latent hereditary virus that is only present in females and awakens at a certain time.
However my neurologist discontinued the idea saying there is no evidence of this , still it is an interesting subject.
I also wonder why men are more subject to Lewy body disease .
The answer is out there somewhere, and I am sure it will be found eventually, when medical science becomes more advanced. Hopefully within our timeframe.
Hang tough everyone! Regards, Ashley

I did a lot of research since my diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s. I hv the gene
€4/€3 the first letter in each is suppose to be a backwards
E. If you have this combination you are at a risk of getting Alzheimer’s
€\4€\4 is most likely to get
Alzheimer’s.
There is more but this too much I could get into.
That’s why this could run in families in women.

@joycel10 I'm sure it runs in my family on both sides. My mother had AD. My Dad's oldest sister ( very intelligent) had AD. His youngest sister also. Now I've been diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimers disease. Great gene pool. Honestly, it royally ticks me off.

I have Alzheimer's Disease. I'm in the early stages and have mild cognitive impairment. Our local Alzheimer's Association had classes and meet-ups for caregivers, but not for folks with MCI. I nagged them repeatedly to set up a get-together for folks with MCI. I'm happy to say that they set up a group meeting at their office, and now we gather once a month! While our partners and caregivers attend, it has been made clear that the group is not a time to express their concerns as caregivers. It's a time for folks with MCI to gather and share their experiences, concerns, etc.
