Treatment of lung adenocarcinoma
Hello Everyone,
My mother, who is 63 years old, has been diagnosed with stage IV lung adenocarcinoma, and it has already metastasized to the pleura. A previous PET-CT scan did not detect it. At present, she has no symptoms, and we are waiting for the results of genetic testing. Does anyone have any advice? I didn't tell her that she had been diagnosed with cancer, Thank you very much.

@mangolinda8191 welcome to Mayo Connect. how are you doing with your diagnosis? it's a lot to process. as far as the treatments you're considering, I looked up both meds. ramucirumab is a drug that keeps blood vessels from developing and has a pretty modest side effect profile. if it was me, I would give it a go and increase my chance for success. tepotinib does have nausea as a common side effect, but I'm sure your care team will help you combat that. let us know how things go.

1 Reaction@mangolinda8191, These decisions are difficult at any age. Knowing how strong you are and what other heath conditions you have will all come into play. Your oncologist is likely best to know what you may be able to handle. We have had other members mention tempmetko, and as with most of these cancer medications, there have been observed side effects.

Do you have someone that has been going to appointments with you? Are they able to help in the decision making process? Sometimes I find it helpful to talk through the options.

3 Reactions@lls8000 Thank you. My husband has gone to appointments with me and I have a doctor-friend who's happy to talk it through. I keep thinking I SHOULD do the clinical trial and tomorrow is probably the very last day that I could, theoretically, be eligible.

2 Reactions@flusshund “Thank you very much for your information. We consulted an oncologist, and she said that we could either take Osimertinib together with chemotherapy or start with Osimertinib alone. My mother plans to try Osimertinib alone for two months first, as she does not want to be too aggressive all at once. As you said, making these decisions is really not easy
