I've had my Tkr for 2 years and 3 months. The tingling burning and pIn continues. Still unable to sleep comfortably. It pains all day and night. Sometimes thr leg feels heavy and cold. Had every test and shots in the knee with no improvements on Gabapentin for month. Doned PT for months ik have een a second openion who told me there is nothing he can do. This is what I have to live with at 75 years old. Please comment

Where are you located? Anywhere near one of the centers of excellence such as the Mayo Clinic or the Hospital for Special Surgery?

I don't think you are in a second or third opinion status. You need a new surgeon who can fix the problem and not one who can simply opine about it.

You should not accept this status at this stage.

@joanhope6 good morning I like you have had unsuccessful tkr and a revision , over two years therapy, myofacial release , graston , you name it I have tried it. I am at 70-75 flexion extension I am 10-15 off normal . So I am a work in progress. I am doing therapy right now I gained 5 degrees in extension but nothing in flexion yet I am hopeful to gain anything. I understand the burning , you would think it would not hurt to exercise after so long but not the case for me. Hurts every time. I have Arthrofibrosis which means I have over abundance of scar tissue, so no matter what I do I tighten up again . So for me there is no more surgery so I just exercise 3 times a day it does help sometimes more than others . Whenever I start a new exercise though it aggravates the knee so found out I have to take a day or two off before get back to it . I am telling you all this. Because Sometimes there is no more surgeries. I was 59 when I started this journey. Few years older now definitely not as active now because I can’t do as much lol . But I was relieved when my dr told me that was it there was no more they can do . I personally could not go through another tkr I went through two within a year . It was the worst time of my life . The first tkr with the wrong size tkr was the absolute torture year . Than in that year no recovery was made just found out had have done again at year mark it was horrible. Than having it done again better recovery better numbers for few months only to lose it all because of scar tissue was cruel joke. I was so done with it all . So demanding physical and mentally. So now like I said I am at peace with my decision. Pt helps right now over the years I have found my own exercise program but pt helping right now because I was in car accident last year figure won’t hurt to do refresher course I lost 15 deg since car accident. But good luck to you. I hope you find what works for you .

@ezas123 good morning, thank you for sharing such unfortunate info about tkr. I actually had a hip replacement 11 years ago by the same doctor that perform my knee surgery. I had NO issue with my hip replacement, which is why I choose to go with the same. I relize that the hip and knee are different, but I never thought of nerves being severed that would cause such pain on a daily basis. I do walk 2 to 3 times a week and strengthen 2 times a week. When i walk sometimes I feel my Tkr knee start to become stiff, I also massage the area one time a day. Yet all the tingling and burning persist daily, all day and night. I can only sleep on one side of my body. And I am told there is nothing that can be done after 2 nd and 3rd opinion. Now I have my right knee and right shoulder beginning to pain and I am certainly looking for alternatives and/or bearing the pain rather than having surgery. Not sure what the future holds for complete recovery and how long i can continue the exercises. My only hope is to find a nerve specialist, who has been in it for a while with exceptional recommendations. And that can do autoscopic surgery going in to fix the nerve without surgery.

@joanhope6 I like you would look for holistic medicine medicine. You never know what might be out there that may help but definitely keep on moving. Keep on exercising so you don’t stiffen up because then you’ll have two problems burning and stiffening.. it’s so unfortunate that there is a few that have so many issues after surgery like if we knew beforehand that this surgery would cost so much scar tissue. I would’ve never had it done. Someday they’ll have a test so they can factor out those people that are not eligible to have replacements instead of performing 3 or 4 surgeries before they realize that they can’t help. Have you tried massage. Sometimes when my muscles are tight I get itchy and massage helps . Worth a shot another thing you can try if you have not is myofacial release I did a lot of that like 3 months after first tkr right into my revision . I am not doing anymore I honestly can’t afford everything this has broke the bank lol . But might be worth if gets rid of burning .
