Starting Prolia
I am very sensitive to medication.
I will be starting Prolia soon. Is it possible to start it at a low trial dose
to see how I react? Thanks.

3 ReactionsThere is so much to understand. I think dosage depends on our weight etc. the biggest problem I have is doctors don’t tell you all the details of the drug. Yet if they did….maybe none of us would take the drug. And another fact is we are responsible for doing the research on the drug before taking it. AND…… the doctors don’t acknowledge that the side affects you complain about are reality. Whew! Look at the big picture. The answer is not right or wrong. It is all about what could be best for you as an individual. Some of us look at medication so strongly. Bottom line. It is a good thing! And it is a bad thing! Has your body responded well with medication in the past? Or have you had many side affects from even Tylenol? It’s so hard to come to the right decision for yourself. Good luck. 😊

9 ReactionsThank you.
julieann9, you should try to read Dr Keith McCormick's book Great Bones.. specifically the medication section. He will outline Prolia side effects, use long term and how to transition off Prolia to another osteo med.

3 ReactionsThanks so much for the advice.
I am very sensitive to meds also, I had to quit Prolia after one dose, told to increase Vit D and calcium. As far as I read there is no lower dose to take as I was also checking this out. I called Amgen co who makes Prolia and mentioned it to their nurse which she found interesting but that will probably never happen.
Had severe side effects as very sensitive to meds and take hald dose of other pills, which is Ok by my Dr and they work just fine.

1 ReactionI am very sensitive also had bad side effects had to stop after first dose, i looked it up and there is no smaller dose or that may have worked for me as with some meds I take a half dose which works and fine with my Dr.
Back in May of 2023 i commented on the Prolia injections. Since that post I have taken at least six or seven injections. I want others to know my personal experience. I did have side effects during the first few injections. Then on the third or fourth injection a kind nurse mentioned to me that some people are taking an allergy pill for five to seven days after the injection and they claim to have fewer side effects. Well, I took a Zertec allergy medicine twice a day, for six days after my injection and unbelievable to me but the side affects of the injection were very few. I was so thankful to hear this. I’ve been doing exactly that ever since. Not that taking allergy meds are good but taking one in the morning and one in the evening only for a week certainly didn’t seem to bother me. So, for those of you that have leg aches and other side effects please try this. By the way, Zertec did NOT stop my hair from thinning. My deca scans have certainly improved and I’m grateful for that. I’m 81 now and I believe my hair would probably be thinning anyway. Having stronger bones is more important. Just wanted to update my previous comment to let you know Prolia is actually helping me. 😊

I have taken two shots of Prolia and will NEVER take the medication again. It has given me debilitating side effects everything from severe bone aches in my hips, legs all over my body and extreme fatigue to where some days I just couldn’t keep going. . I will have a few good days but symptoms come right back. My internist recommend that I NEVER take Prolia again. I am not one to complain, but have never in my life experienced anything like this! He put me on prednisone for two weeks and improved. I have a few good days here and there, but it always comes back. Please do your research, as this is a wicked drug!!!
It does take a while to clear out of system where some the side effects may gradually dissapear but it does not happen fast per my exoerience.
