I keep loosing weight, eating good food , fish, turkey, chicken, sweet potatoes, potatoes, carrots, green beans, fruit, scrambled eggs, avocados, but I’m still losing weight. Can you help me out? Give me some ideas and how many are losing weight due to COPD?

I lost about 20 pounds pretty quickly. Even though no changes to my lung CT, my PCP sent me to the “suspicion of cancer” clinic. They checked everything with bloodwork and CT’s with contrast. One blood test was off and sent me to a rheumatologist. He did more bloodwork and said that he didn’t know why I was seeing him. I was relieved that everything was good. The one blood test that was off is directly related to my Copd. I eat about everything. I try to eat everything that is high in protein. I found wheat bread has twice as much as white bread. I also drink protein shakes. Good fats will help but protein is the key for muscle maintenance along with exercise.

5 ReactionsIt sounds like you're eating all the right stuff, plenty of protein, etc., but are you doing any strength training (i.e., lifting heavy stuff)? It's not true that you can't add muscle mass after a certain age, and, in fact, it's pretty important to at least keep what you have. If you don't move it, you lose it. (I'm looking at what I just wrote as a critical reminder to myself, too, by the way!) You can get a set of resistance bands pretty cheap online, and with a little ingenuity you can "lift" a lot with them.

1 ReactionDarn, I too have COPD but it is hard to lose weight. A few months ago I was diagnosed with Addison's disease and put on meds. I gained 20 lbs. I found out later this could cause weight gain. I am now on a low calorie diet and doing one of the natural weight loss mixtures. It is Chia seeds and high protein super greens. In of itself will not make you lose weight. It suppress your appetite so I do not eat extra and a slight higher metabolism. Or so they say. I do watch what I eat calorie wise as well. The last 8 weeks I lost 14 lbs. Maybe mind over matter but it seems to work for me.
SO NOBODY TELL ME IT IS ALL IN MY HEAD. 🙂 (A JOKE)

1 ReactionI’ve been losing weight like crazy for the past two years.
I eat healthy fats, slowed down my workouts and walks, tried plant protein shakes. Still losing.
I do try to exercise, even 5 minutes, everyday. I walk on my walking pad 3-4 days a week. Most days, I drink Slim Fast for breakfast and lunch, along with some fruit. I eat a regular dinner, that includes a starch and vegetable, and either fish or chicken, for the most part. I do eat pork and beef, on occasion. I have gained 25 pounds, since I retired in 2021. I do have severe emphysema but I stay as active as I can. Why can’t I lose weight?
I thought with COPD our body burns more calories than those without the disease. Makes no sense to me!
