Chronic Pain, alternative Treatment
I have had chronic pain for 17 years. I know what I'm going to say will be met with doubt, but please try what I say, even though it is not completely backed up by sceince. I was on heavy doses of OPIOIDS for 16 years with no help, relieveing my pain, then I started to take Kratom, for the last year I have been Pain Free!!! If you try it , you will have to try different strains, to find out what works best for you

I could do chair exercises!!! Yay! Can't get my foot wet yet, though. So, no water aerobics yet. Tgank you darling for the info. Why didn't I think of that?!!

@mamacita thats why we are here as a group to help others with what works for us I had foot surgery about 11/2 yrs ago didn't get foot wet .
@lioness, how long did you have to be off your feet? I feel like this has been going on for at least a month!
At first it was really painful, but I wouldn't take the pain meds as directed because I felt my homeschooler needed my alert presence. ( His Papa has been really under the weather a lot lately)
So I would manage to be alert for school, then I would take my meds. Of course I wasn't going anywhere. Talk about cabin fever!
Next time, I think I will rent a wheelchair so I can at least get around the house easier. What do you think?
And yes, thank goodness for Mayo Connect. We have each other!
Good night and pleasant dreams!

@mamacita I had a bunionectomy I think I was of my feet for about 6 weeks I would heel walk if I needed to ,no fun Since you cant take the pain medicine as perscribed it might take as long or longer ,sorry, but a wheelchair ♿ would help .What kind of foot surgery did you have? Sleep well.
Good Morning All...
Here is an update on what is going on with me.
I woke up last week with HORRIBLE pain in my left knee.
The pain did not go away so I called the orthopedist surgeon.
They were able to get me in quickly.
I was diagnosed with bone on bone on my left knee, and my right knee was slightly better.
Rest and ice packs and an occasional pain med helps.
This is really contra indicated for my spinal healing.
Damned if I do, damned if I don't.
Well, the pain is so bad, I'm willing to do anything in order to get myself back on my feet.
Saddest of all, my son and younger granddaughter are here for a long weekend.
I can't do anything and that makes me sad.
yesterday they spent the day in the pool.
It was and is too hot to just sit outside.
I did go outside for just a few minutes.
Even in the lanai (away from the sun) with the fan going, it was just too hot for me.
They understand but that does not make it better.
Booo-hoo!!!!! 🙁
I knew I'd need to have more body parts fixed and replaced!
I also knew I'd wind up being the bionic woman.
HAPPY FRIDAY...
Ronnie (GRANDMAr)
@grandmar Well, dang It! I hope you can get some relief and can enjoy the family visiting this weekend. Floating in the pool on a chaise with cool drink in plastic cup in hand, perhaps?

I did. It was excruciating to get off the opioids over a two day inpatient stay and then try using Suboxone to manage the pain. It was useless. The only good thing is it reset my opiate use so I could start with a lower dose for effective pain relief.
For anyone who is considering Kratom as a method for pain relief, you should read this:
https://www.fda.gov/newsevents/newsroom/pressannouncements/ucm595622.htm
It is essentially a Opioid as it connects to opioid receptors in our brain—The plant is the same one they derive morphine from. In addition it can have serious side effects when combined with other medications and/or alcohol...including death. It is not regulated and therefore hard to know truly how much of anything is in a given capsule or powder. I know we all struggle to find what works for us, but something like this really should be discussed with your physician or pharmacist. It is illegal in many states and counties, and the FDA is moving rapidly to move it into a controlled substance category. More study is needed, because this medication/drug does seem to have a place, just not unregulated.
I was on Pain medication for 15 yrs. after a car accident, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arteritis. Along with a bunch of other pain related problems. They started me on Fentanyl, Percocet, and then I had the Dr. drop down to Vicodin 7.5mg 4x daily which I was able to manage the pain for a while with that. Problem w/taking pain meds is you’re either to gabby and off the wall most of the time or just (in my case) look like and act like your high all the time which is not good for a marriage or relationship at all. I have found throughout my 20 yrs. of pain related medical issues that most Dr's love to 1st try to get you on some sort of Psych med that treat pain. They are also worse to withdraw from than the opioid as they mess with the chem in your brain. In my case they did not help one bit. So the opioids helped. But they came with a cost. You are labeled an opioid abuser, or friends and family think your just high all of the time. So I tried Kratom...After 15+ yrs. of taking opioids I was not only able to get off of the Vicodin’s within a week, I was also able to get off antidepressants as well. Yes I have found that the Red Vein Kratom is mostly for pain... other strains help with energy levels, sleep, depression ... I was taking the kratom for two yrs+ and yes at times it made me gabby at times...But not like the opioids. I was able to function again... Then I started losing quite a bit weight. Lost 30+Lbs in 3 months. Started having temporal headaches, .probably unrelated to kratom however I stopped the kratom. The pain is back, anxiety is back, and I’m 6'1" and wt. is 155lbs... From 200lbs. Went to one of the top Hospitals in the country and they ran every test one could imagine. MRI's MRA, CT scans tested for parasites even a PET scan which is very hard to get. After being in the hospital for 7 days... They did find a few problems but nothing related as to why the unintentional wt. loss or the headaches. So as I still (month later) wait to try to find out why all this has happened, my Dr who was treating me with opioids gave me a rundown as to what I don’t have...His Dx to all this that I'm going through is due to taking opiods for such a long period of time.... That’s it!!! All of the tests came back that I am all ok with an slight adrenal problem (which they do not seem to be too concerned about)...Now I have had to start back on the Vicodins again after being off of the opiods for 2 yrs.. I am in pain all of the time since they have me on a very small dose daily...
I still weigh 155lbs and have no answers. One note of importance is I had stage 3 fibrosis Hep C and was treated with Harvoni 2 yrs. ago and cured of Hep C. I read many article stating the exact same problems I am having now. I mentioned this to my Liver Dr who treated me with harvoni and he could not deny fast enough that it wasn’t the Harvoni...I have read over 200 articles of post harvoni problems from other who have the exact same symptoms I am having and have had.
But yes kratom does work...and if you want to get your life back from that ball and chain opioid cycle then I would give it a try...
Bless your sweet soul, @grandmar . You are really having a time of it. I certainly hope you get some relief soon so that you can get around and be with your family. But they love you, and I'm sure they are glad to have you around, period.
Healing energy and prayerful thoughts sent your way!
