Does anyone have short bowel syndrome?

Posted by tjanet @tjanet, Jan 28, 2024

5 years ago I had a small intestines blockage and had to have all but 2 feet of my small intestines removed. I was on TPN and a feeding tube for a couple years years now I am eat food. I am able to eat most foods except raw vegetables and high fiber foods.
Over two years ago I started having constant abdominal spasms and constant nausea, doctors don't know what is causing it. The spasms feels like someone is twisting my insides and some pressure. Nausea medications don't help with the nausea.

@tjanet - I'm so sorry for your suffering. It's also hard when your family does not understand your health issues.

If you are feeling like this GI doctor is misunderstanding your short gut syndrome, are you looking into getting a second opinion from another doctor in your network?

Also, are you feeling as though your breathing and heartrate issues are significant enough to warrant a visit to be checked by a medical professional?

@lisalucier All of the GI doctors in the town that I live in are all in the same office. I have seen my PCP about my heart issues and he also don't know what to do, had some heart tests done and some have came back abnormal but not serious problems.

Do you have short bowel syndrome? What types of food do you eat to gain weight? I am on a high calorie, high carb, high protein, low fiber diet. Because of my health issues, I can't cook things that have a lot of prep or standing at the stove cooking. So I need easy food/meals ideas.

I have been doing IV fluids 5 days a week. One litter LR fluids a day. I can't tell a difference with doing the IV of fluids 5 times a week. I still have symptoms every day, no change in my symptoms.
