Does anyone have short bowel syndrome?

It has been a rough few months with my health conditions and health issues. My health conditions and health issues are getting much worse. Doctors don't seem to know what to do to help me. Doctors are making my health conditions and health issues worse. Doctors have been prescribing medications that I shouldn't take because of the side effects to the medications. Life is getting harder to live alone. I have health issues every day. I suffer every day with nausea, heart rate problems, dizziness, weakness, fatigue, loss of appetite and weight loss. I can only eat two small meals a day and I drink one Boost Plus a day,because of health issues. I don't have an appetite to eat much. I get more nauseated if I drink fluids. Doctors don't care about my health issues. Doctors don't seem to care that I am losing weight. I am not on TPN. I do IV fluids five times a week to help with dehydration.

My husband has had daily watery diarrhea for 11 years following the removal of a small but crucial portion of his colon. He lost only about 1-ft, but it included the ileocecal valve (between small and large intestines). No diagnosis but a very real problem for 11+ years! Nothing has helped so far. It has been a major quality of life issue. Good luck to you.

Because of my Short gut syndrome not being treated in a medical way, I am getting more health issues/symptoms. I have heart issues now,heart palpitations 4-6 times a day that last a couple minutes. Fast heart beats,chest pressure, some shortness of breath and some abdominal pain. I still have some diarrhea every day. Still not much of an appetite. Doctors don't know how to treat my health conditions/health issues. I suffer every day with health issues/symptoms. It is getting harder to live alone because of my health issues.

When I see my GI doctor and my PCP,they don't look at my abdomen or check my other symptoms. My GI doctor only talks, he doesn't exam or look at my abdomen or anything about my Short bowel syndrome. He has prescribed medications that don't treat my symptoms, so my symptoms are getting worse. Don't know how long my body will last with these symptoms/health issues. My doctors only go by blood results not my symptoms. Because of short bowel syndrome blood results can be wrong. I continue to suffer every day with health issues/symptoms.

time for another doc ?

@nycmusic . I should be going to a specialist but my family thinks that my GI doctor specializes in short bowel syndrome, but my GI doctor doesn't specialize in short bowel syndrome. My health conditions are getting worse but my GI doctor thinks that I am doing good. It is getting very hard to live alone. My GI doctor only goes by what my blood work results says not my symptoms. Because of short bowel syndrome blood work results can be wrong.

I saw my GI doctor today. He didn't help me with my health issues/symptoms.So I continue to suffer everyday with health issues/symptoms. It is getting very hard to live alone because of my health issues/symptoms.

My GI doctor wants to say that my Short gut syndrome symptoms are a mental problem. My Short gut syndrome symptoms are not a mental problem they are medical problems that should be treated medically for. I continue to suffer every day with symptoms. It is hard to live alone because of my health issues. It is hard to cook and clean because of my health conditions. My family members don't understand my health issues.

Anyone with short bowel syndrome? What can help with constant nausea, fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal pain/spasms. I also have heart palpitations 4-6 times a day lasting a few minutes each time. I can feel my heart beating fast even when laying down. I also have a hard time taking deep breaths.
I don't have stress, anxiety or depression.

@tjanet - I'm so sorry for your suffering. It's also hard when your family does not understand your health issues.

If you are feeling like this GI doctor is misunderstanding your short gut syndrome, are you looking into getting a second opinion from another doctor in your network?

Also, are you feeling as though your breathing and heartrate issues are significant enough to warrant a visit to be checked by a medical professional?
