Does anyone have experience taking low dose Remeron for sleep?

Posted by con123 @con123, Aug 28, 2023

I'm having terrible insomnia in the last stages of my Klonopin taper and my doctor prescribed Remeron. I have not started taking it yet but after some totally sleepless nights, I'll feeling desperate. Just wonder if anyone can give me their experience.

@myhappyplace I am being trialed (unsuccessfully) on sleep medications. Why can’t you take trazodone?

@suzleigh for me, Trazodone doesn't work, either - wakeful for 2+ hours after taking it, and then only sleep sporadically. I think because of the antihistamine properties? Same with hydroyzine for me. Others use those meds very successfully.
Ambien worked the best for me, until it didn't, but doctors don't seem to like to prescribe that any more.

I am going through a very difficult withdrawal from venlafaxine and was prescribed Remeron to sleep. I tried it for 4 nights and quit because it gave me terrible nightmares. I hope you have better luck with it.

@donnaturn I take Melatonin sporadically, and when i first start it up again, i get vivid dreams. Magnesium glycinate gave me nightmares. Interesting how some people's chemistries can be so different

That is very interesting. I used to take Magnesium, until I read somewhere that Magnesium glycinate was better for something (sorry I am going through venlafaxine withdrawal and can't remember what it was). Anyway, I switched to glycinate and have had no problems with it.

I am on my decline for clonazepam. I have been taking Remeron for about 8mos now. I am taking it in conjunction with Trazadone. It works great. I sleep a full night of 8hrs. The only side effect I have is my mouth is dry. Other than that I think it’s great.

I took Remeron for quite some time. I feel like it was effective with my other 2 nighttime meds for my chronic and lifetime long insomnia. Off it now. It was good, except it was my second med that caused weight gain.
My appetite was very high from it. You might want to try trazadone at night.
